Love my Coupe S; are they collector's items yet?

The Coupe is still an attention grabber... am not seeing a premium in the re-sale market yet. What do you think the chances are?

Capt_bj Apr 8, 2017 02:15 PM

Coupe and Roadster didn't sell well and that's why they were dropped

our Roadster sat on a dealer lot for over 13 months and they still had a couple more when we bought ours.

They will be 'rare', question is: any reason 'want' will increase?

Personally I'm not holding my breath one bit. We like ours but don't consider it an 'investment'.

Aquavette Apr 8, 2017 05:11 PM

I won't hold my breath either.
Fairly low production numbers by modern car standards will indeed make them uncommon.
Just don't confuse rare with desirable.
Drive and enjoy.

Watch a few episodes of Wayne Carini's Velocity channel show. That will give you an idea of what is meant by rare and desirable.

In a word: Never. Drive and enjoy.

It could. The year is 2092 and it is found in a barn buried in hay, on blocks, all the fluids are drained, the battery is in the cabin with instructions on how to charge it. Everything is put back as it should be until someone asks: "What is oil?".

minirab Apr 10, 2017 02:52 PM

And will MINI void the warranty if I do the work myself?

TheBigNewt Apr 11, 2017 09:18 AM

My JCW Coupe sat at the dealer for almost 9 months before I bought it. True, it was almost $40k, but IMO the Coupe/Roadster appeals to a minority of Mini drivers mainly because there's no back seat. Notice that now the most popular models are the 4 doors now.

LORDVDR Apr 11, 2017 09:40 AM

Not a classic just yet, but eventually the Coupe body style will be legendary.

TheBigNewt Apr 11, 2017 10:01 AM

I think that members of Mini clubs and organizations like Coupes, and I'm sure they garner lots of looks at Mini events like the Dragon. But I don't think that makes them collector's items like a 63 Corvette split window coupe lol.

LORDVDR Apr 11, 2017 10:03 AM

I vehemently disagree. It'll be legendary. Forever. And ever and ever annnnnd ever.

Hi all - Good comments. I was in my coupe in a parking lot yesterday checking my email and someone was waiting for me to get out of the car to ask me about it. Still happens all the time.

And the very first question they ask is: "Does the top come off?" lol

Fly'n Brick Apr 13, 2017 10:22 AM

Maybe I ought to temper my previous comment. On Chasing Classic Cars this Wednesday a 2014 La Ferrari sold for 2.35 million so maybe the coupe just might have a chance after all.

Top R58 questions I get...
1. Does the top come off?
2. Is it a convertible?
3. Does it get good gas mileage?
...After I tell them it takes premium gas, they act like they could not afford it. lol
4. Is that the new Porsche?
5. Is that made in Germany?
6. How do you fit in that?
7. Is it fast?
8. Why does it have a rear wing, is it rear wheel drive?
And some of these questions come from what I think are car people...

Where I live, mostly middle aged and older people are attracted. One day on a restaurant parking lot, 4 guys were looking very close. They said they were aware what was a JCW but they never saw one like this before.

When they asked if it was fast, I said...... well, it depends how fast you want to drain your checking account. LOL

LORDVDR Apr 13, 2017 07:05 PM

That could be the best response I've ever heard. lol

#9. Do they started to sell yet?!??? Answer: Hmmm... actually they are all sold out, quite limited though lol...

ECSTuning Aug 5, 2019 08:26 AM

lol

MarinePMI Sep 10, 2020 12:11 PM

I was at the dealer a month or so ago, and got asked by the sales guy if I was interested in selling Betty. Apparently (at least in SoCal) the demand is going up. He said he gets asked at least once a week, if he knows of anyone selling a Coupe. I told him, thanks, but no thanks...

Capt_bj Sep 11, 2020 03:23 PM

I've had dozens of folks ask me if I was ready to sell and what was the price

no one had 'shown me the money'

it is worth what you sell it for .....

talk is cheap .....
