JCW brake dust................
I have just over 500 miles now and I observed that brake dust build up very fast every time I clean the wheels. They become dirty with a thick film just after 20-30 miles of driving. I even have brake dust deposits on the lower front door panels.
I am wondering if it is normal and what has been the experience of other owners when the car was new. Does the problem go away with time or is it the way it is with this brake set up? Two days ago I saw a JCW HT at a stop light but the car was very dirty with the Challenge wheels "extra" dirty so it is not a reference. It seems even worse with the black wheels. |
Cure or at least an improvement would be to purchase EBC red brembo pads. A few vendors carry them, Outmotoring and Way Motor Works are a just a couple among others........

You're asking about a JCW Coupe, but I'd confirm that my '12 MCS is also one heck of a brake dust generator. I bought a long-handled soft-bristle brush just to be able to quickly wash the wheels since it's needed so often.
I went with aftermarket pads (Akebono, I've used them in the past on other cars) on the rears that I replaced myself, and I'll try these on the front when they're due. |
My 2014 JCW doesn't generate as much brake dust as my 2007 MCS did. I have black wheels (vs silver before) so I don't see much at all. FYI.

Use a small California duster....it's a quick clean, no water or cleaning fluid.

Quit using your brakes.

Yes the stock brakes produce a ton of dust as they are very soft. The easiest and best solution is to replace them with a set of our Redstuff EBC pads for the JCW brakes. They perform better than stock with much less dust.

You said the JCW brakes are very soft. What do you mean? Any performance issues with the stock brakes I should be aware of?
If you were to take them to the track you will go through them quickly. |

Not a performance issue. They are considered soft as they have that quick bite to make the stopping distances short, but that also causes the high amounts of dust.

Have you considered different pads ? These have better bite and less dust.
