What do you Coupe owners think? Agree? Disagree?

Only part way through since they insist on having two damn paragraphs per page. Anyways I like the photography and entertaining to read so far. Let's see if I can finish reading the article...

Funny that they go through the whole comparison and then say that they used the wrong spec Coupe to compare...kinda lame...

What do you mean? Maybe I missed it but what kind of Coupe did they intend on comparing rather than the JCW that they got. :-?

Maybe not wrong spec...maybe wrong contest...

By page 20 and then 21 they allow that the JCW Coupe they tested was punching way above it's weight against the Audi and Pugeot...but a base model Coupe, which would be like half the price of the other cars...

I saw the RCZ this summer in Munich for the first time and it's gorgeous. No doubt that would be my choice if it was sold in the US. Sorry Mini.

I like the TV show, but their written reviews, both in the content and the use of multiple pages, are really annoying. They try to be WAY too clever.

I agree. I refuse to click through 22 pages. It's bad enough when news sites use it to bump up click counts and ad revenue, but TopGear has no excuse.

All things considered, I think I'd take the Audi.

I was considering at TT before I purchased the MINI. It seemed too premium for my tiny budget at this point in my life. I kind of like the image of an MINI driver better than a TT driver anyway. It's cool that they compare them anyway, though.

They claim the Audi is the best but it is also more expensive..

I'm not surprised.. The MINI Coupe was to offer a cheaper alternative to the Audi TT w/o actually achieving/surpassing what they offer due to it being cheaper. It is in its own market.

The Reanult being the same price but offering quite a lot less is pretty crazy. It read as if the Coupe easily beat it (Minus on rough roads).

Either way.. I love my car and its unique :)

Meh.. I would still take a TT over a Coupe..

Not a huge fan of TT's but really don't think you can go wrong with any of the three.

No i just know more about the TT then apparently you do.. haha.

The TT is a much better platform, with an AWD option even.

Then you step into the TT-S, TT-RS and even a JCW coupe isnt going to stand a chance with that car. The 2.0TSI motor is a much better engine platform then the 1.6T that is in the coupe and the cooper. So thats not me hating on the precious half a car you own that weights more than my cooper and is slower.

But I guess thats neither here or there.

Anyways, the coupe and TT really arent comparable. The TT has more room, more power and a larger aftermarket than the coupe does. Whatever works for everyone, but the TT in my book wins clearly..

Now you can all spew your whole its about the driving experience and blah blah blah.. but until you have really driven a TT or a modded TT.. you have no idea.

I'd take a TT over a coupe as well, but there's no need to be a douche about it. :roll:

They aren't really in the same price range. I did a comparison of the cheapest Audi TT Coupe and the most expensive MINI JCW Coupe on my Library of Motoring website a while back. Have a look at the numbers.

Went to the Concours d'Elegance car show in Hilton Head SC this past week end and a number of manufacturers were offering ride and drives of their cars. I took out a Porsche Cayman and the new MINI Coupe. First off the Porsche was great but for the money it should be. I've been a little unsure about the coupe styling but after seeing it in Black on Black in person, it grew on me. As for the the drive, nice solid feel, really liked it. Only two dislikes, the coupe I drove was a base model w/ an auto, owning an S w/ a six speed this was disappointing. I was on a flat island and it was constantly down shifting to keep in the power band, really need the S motor with the auto. The other thing is, with the wall behind the seats and the low slung roof (actually has bumps in the headliner to give more head room) it felt claustrophobic and the rear visibility was terrible. After driving the coupe I think I will stick to the traditional MINI hatch, and my need for performance will always push me toward the S and a six speed, but that's my preference and I'm sure there are many out there that will disagree.

I agree with the auto-base. When I test drove the Justa (and never having driven a MINI before) I was ridiculously disappointed. So I totally get that point.

As for the claustrophobia, that's definitely a personal thing and I can't knock it. I get claustrophobic but the Coupe didn't bother me. So it goes.

But as for the visibility piece, I explained it this way: a slightly limited visibility in a MINI is still better visibility than I get in most larger cars with huge pillars of doom. A MINI is anywhere from 2.5-8 ft smaller than most of what you're encountering on the road (minus motorcycles) so the scale of what you're missing with limited visibility is a lot less of a limit than an equivalent lack of visibility in a larger vehicle. I understand for people who have driven MINIs in the past, there would be a valid issue of comparison. But for those of us coming from the non-MINI world, we're pretty used to not seeing that large of a chunk on a regular basis. I think the Coupe might have less of a blind spot than my Mazda 3, from what I encountered on the test drive.
