R57 Forge Turbo Blanket Install

Forge Turbo Blanket Install
Decided to try and cut down on the heat melting our scoop so I installed a turbo blanket. Got them on sale from ECS over Christmas. Product came in a bag no instructions, but looked pretty straight forward. Hardest part was to remove and install the three bolts on the radiator side. My suggestion is to clean them before installing them again. On the R57 you need to remove the sensor completely and loosen the sensor bracket and move it out of the way. R59 you just unplug the sensor and feed it through. Both needs the OEM heat shield removed and for the first few drives it smokes like crazy. Just open your hood and windows and air it out after each drive until it stops smoking. Looks cool and feels cooler, but it's also winter here ;-).

Looks like a copy of the older Alta / Perrin turbo blanket.
Not sure you have it installed 100% correctly... Looks like it should be tucked between the hot side turbine housing and the oil / water lines - not sitting on top of the oil fitting like that. I would be worried about the oil and water lines getting too hot.

The install instructions can be found here, under the "Downloads" tab:

Take a look at this picture of the Alta blanket:
See how it tucks nicely between the turbine housing and the oil line? I would try to get the Forge blanket into a similar position.

Did you ever get the turbo installed? And try it yet?

Yes, I ended up tucking the right side in so it doesn't cover the hoses. One thing I noticed on our R57 it smoked like crazy for the first few drives where I felt a little uneasy. I was told its normal and it went away. On our R59 it didn't smoke as much. I was only able to see it if I popped the hood. Its been cold here in NC so I couldn't really tell you if it reduced the heat, but definitely looks good.

I purchased the Forge blanket and while installing the top right bolt, the faster tore right through the fabric. In addition, the fitment on the lower section wasn't good either. Looks like it was made a bigger turbo. I contacted ECS and they were willing to allow a return or a replacement. But since I re-installed the Mini metal cover over the blanket to cover the tear, returning or a replacement, wasn't an option. I asked to have my purchased discounted but they declined. So beware when you install one. And yes it didn't reduce the amount of heat.

Serious?
First, of course it doesn’t fit like factory. It’s a turbo blanket. Duh.
And why should they give you a discount?
Have you ever done a mod to a car before? Do you realize that making modifications to a car means that you are modifying ?
Seriously don’t get your post or why putting down a great product. Maybe put on a fresh pair of panties and leave your credit card in your purse next time.
Sorry, but really don’t get your post. :(
