I am Gen1 but the maintenance for your Gen2 would be similar. First, you want to use a lubricant on the moving parts and glides that does not attract dirt. See the thread below for some info on materials you can use. Next, I like to treat all the various rubber trim with an auto type silicone such as Gummi Pflege Stift (BMW) or a Sil Glyde (NAPA). Last, treat the top with a product such as RaggTop (be sure to cover/mask off everything but the fabric. I use a paint drop to cover the paint).

I see one response references my original question. I have been following the advice of lubricating and protecting the roof, and I put the top up and down quite a bit. I am coming up on 3 years with my Mini pooper and that I purchased new and not a single hitch with my roof. Of course, my car is still very new compared to the other owners on this forum.

I think ECSTuning has like a zillion miles on his convertible and his roof still works fine so the advice is sound.

I’ve been using Ragg Top on a couple of older Z3s for over 10 years. Refresh the top every 6-7 months with a new can after a through cleaning with Ragg Top cleaner.

Only like 284K (close to zillion ) on my R52. First top replaced at 30K. Because of the early MINI wear marks and adjustment issues. Second top ~250K and holding up.
