Which aftermarket 02 sensors have worked for your N14?

Hey Folks,

I got my butt kicked by some BOSCH 02 sensors a few years back (https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ts-dealer.html). Constant CELs and ended up putting the OEM's back in and returning them . Apparently Amazon is not a official dealer of BOSCH units.

At this stage the two O2s have 170k miles on them. No CELs yet but wanting to change them out.

Which brand model have you had luck with from ROCK AUTO, for S model N14 engine.

I think NTK is OEM. I installed one of those when I got codes (though those came from a dying HPFP lean fuel condition...).

Funny thing is that the Bosch units i bought were just NTKs in Bosch boxes and they gave me check engine lights. Amazon isn't even an authorized Bosch dealer. I got an earful from Bosch customer service about buying from AMAZON.

Rock Auto's return policy is not friendly and Amazon's Bosch/NTK units didn't work. Local parts stores cost three times as much.

Anyone used FAE sold by ECS Tuning?

FAE is oem on some sensors for MINI. They should be fine.

Bosch and NTK like to switch around as the supplier. Yep a bunch of fake bosch units on amazon so watch out on that. I talk to bosch and they know about it.

Most of the time the CEL might pop on due to the head of the sensor getting grease on it and burning off. The grease and anti seize you have to clean off with a dry rag. Most come pre greased. Also make sure you dont twist the wires too much. Its easy to do so on install. That will pull the wire out and then you get a CEL.

Try to get that knowledge from Rockauto

Thanks Mr. ECS Tuning. Rock Auto is wild wild west for parts.

Do you guarantee no CELS with your o2 sensors?

Welcome, its Mike

Should not have CEL, biggest issues on MINI for new parts and CEL is damaged part from factory or twisting the wires, damaging the head on install or have too much grease. A

" Rock Auto is wild wild west for parts." That and Amazon. Its even wilder. Like "wagons east" wild. lol

Thanks

Who the hell puts grease on an 02 sensor?

So if we buy one of your O2 sensors and they are not accepted by the car (CEL produced), will you accept a return and give a refund?

Yep,

Its pre greased on the threads and they put protective plastic on them and when you take the cap off it rubs on the head.

Thanks
Mike

They put a tiny spec of ant seize on the threads.

ok so youre saying you don't take returns on faulty O2 sensors.

Just one thing to consider: a CEL from an O2 sensor can also be because your engine is out of spec. I had a failing HPFP that leaned out mixture and it threw a CEL once. So I thought the sensor is about to be done. I bought a new one, and I got a CEL right away. I didn't blame it on the sensor though, and found the HPFP just before total collapse.

Thanks for your thoughts cpmetz.

My motor has maybe 5000 miles on it. I have no CELs.

Ive tried "BOSCH" and got a CEL. If the o2 sensor is compatible their should be no issue.

ESC return return policy is not easy hence I prefer another option just in case.

You can return it if it has an issue.

Just curious here, Lex, why are you wanting to replace a part that is not causing an issue?

Because they have 166,000 miles on them. No CELs but they cannot be working as well as when new and 92/93 octane gas is $4 a gallon right now in DC metro area.

It’s hit and miss really, my car was at 150k miles, after a cel related to the lower o2 sensor, i wanted to change both and bought them from bosch. Upper one is working flawlessly, lower one gives cel. So i cleaned my old one with vinegar and hot water: dipped it into vinegar and waited for about a day, then dipped it inside hot water for about an hour to clean to remains. Now the 150k miles old is working flawlessly since then (it’s been 10k miles)

My experience exactly. NGKs in Bosch boxes from Amazon. One worked the other was constant CELs so I put the old one back in. But at 165k+ miles time is ruining out.

2009, r55, n14, and i was changing out the O2 sensor to see if it got rid of a MIL/CEL code. I bought, from Rock Auto an NTK 24331. it does NOT work for the N14. first hundred km was fine then nothing but check engine lights and engine ran bad adn sputterr to the point of dying. Fuel Map was in OPEN as opposed to LOOP, the entire time, so that makes sense why I kept smelling excess fuel being let go in exhaust.
I still had the old O2 sensorand so I cleaned that well and ut bacck in... the engine runs perfectly again. I'm not even trtin to return the NTK Lambda sensor to RA.com
