R56 Front Right Suspension Knock
Front Right Suspension Knock
Hello friends,
I have been dealing with this light clunking noise coming from the front right (passenger side) of my MINI when driving over sharp bumps such as gravel / brick roads or broken pavement.
I have replaced the front sway bar bushings, control arms, control arm bushings (powerflex poly), front sway bar end links, and just today completely rebuilt my front struts with all OE parts, including new Sachs struts. It is still present.
The car has H&R sport springs.
Could this be my right-side engine mount? I have 131k miles on the original mounts. Anyone else have an issue like this?

Might the suspension dumpening system is done?YOu might have to change the suspension and not the H&R springs?
When you change only the springs the suspension got more power-shock so you have to change it faster..
I would consider change my supsension IF that is an issue and go for some cheap coilovers(if you dont want to spend much) or even for some used suspension.

I had a similar issue last year and it was clear my lower control arm bushings needed to be replaced - assuming that was the issue - put in Powerflex but he issue was still there. I assumed I now needed a control arm but when my mechanic dismantled the shock there was no dampening - the strut was out of oil?? I guess it leaked completely out with the PO.
So replaced both front struts with new Sachs units and returned the new lower control (With ball joint).
Sounds like you replaced the struts already so it may not be the same issue.

I saw that you had posted a thread about this a while ago...
I thought it was my struts or upper strut mounts, so I went ahead and replaced all of that with OE parts, and the noise is still there.
The only part I had not replaced are my outer ball joints - the part that connects the lower control arm to the steering knuckle. Seems to be cheap and easy so I may just replace those parts and go from there.
Everything else in the front suspension is literally brand new.
