2011 S Auxiliary coolant pump inop?

Noticed today after driving my 2011 Cooper S 30 miles home from work that I did not hear the electric auxiliary coolant pump for the turbo running. I figured it should be running, as temps were close to 100 degrees today, and I usually hear it running after a similar drive. I have no idea how long it has been inop. If it fails, will there be a code set? I have no check engine light, car has been running fine. Also, is there possibly a fuse for this pump somewhere? Any help will be greatly appreciated.

the pump is a direct connection to the DME https://www.newtis.info/tisv2/a/en/r...oling/CkT99JvJ

when mine was acting up, I would get a half CEL. Read the codes even if there is not CEL.

Also, the pump might be ok but because for some reason the DME is not sensing the coolant temp, it is not triggering the pump? just thinking out loud.

I checked for codes today, nothing. But this was just with a simple code reader. I probably need a real scanner to be certain. I am thinking about checking for power at the connector to the pump when I think it should be on, but that's kind of a crap-shoot.

I don't know about the 2011 S, but mine was replaced under recall on our 2012 S.

Yeah, mine was replaced under that recall as well. Just time for another one at 108k miles, I guess.

Yep there was a recall for the older unit:

Can you hear it kick on at all or is it on/off? I guess you could jump it with a 12v to see if it will come on as a test.

Thanks, ECS. Yeah, the recall was done. Now it seems like it's my turn to replace it. It makes no noise, and I am used to hearing if after shutdown. No idea how long it's been inop. I see you have two aux pumps, one MINI branded, the other Pierburg. The MINI one has a Pierburg sticker on it, but looks like a slightly different part number. What is the difference, besides the price?

Welcome,

Yep, its the same thing Genuine MINI used to be more. But since MINI warranties the part or a recall you will see the retail price drop way down. Which is rare and thats when you see the direct OEM part actually higher. Based off that i bet in the future the price will go up and above the pierburg direct price.

Its the same part as the OEM MINI and OEM Manufacturer ae the same. That picture might be older and need shot again, we will shoot it again.
