Time to give up the Mini

That time has come. My daughter bought this car about a year and a half ago and and it's been in the shop three times. All three were minor issues that I am fully capable of diagnosing and fixing myself except this car isn't ordinary. She just got another car and this one is on it's way out. A week ago it started bogging down on start up and intermittently after it idles out. My question and thought is, should I sell it as is or part it out. A trip to the shop is absolutely out if the question. Running good, we would get maybe $2000 for it, and every trip to the shop has been too much. Body is very good, interior is nice. When it runs good, it runs good. Just weighing my options.

What year, what model, and what's the mileage? Bogging down on start up could be a low battery or need some parts cleaned from what I've gathered

It's an 08. Battery is new, put some injector cleaner in it. Basically though, we're both tired of the car now.

The check engine light will come on when it bogs down, but then disappears and no codes are present.

I would absolutely sell it as is! Someone out there is always going to know what to do to fix it and give it the time and investment it needs. I'd be flexible with the pricing though since you don't know what's wrong with it. I'm tempted to buy that myself!

Not sure where you are located, but I would see if a mini fanatic wants to wrench on it for a bit to see if they can get it squared so you might be able to sell it. I always look for a project like this and would do it for free for a few months before you might decide to part it out.l

Honestly, I don't think it's a bad car and it won't take much but I don't want to mess with it. The only reason I would consider parting it out is to get more money out of it.

Offer it up here, maybe someone will grab it as is and fix it. I would if I didn't have my 2011 right now.

+ 1 You got that right, PARTING IS A PAIN! Been there done that.
I did this twice and NEVER did I come up with the amount I thought I was going to make.
Took me way longer to get rid of everything and I regretted doing a part out.
After that lingered on for about 2 months, I would up giving parts away cause I wanted everything gone!

Just remember that buying a different car will in itself have its own set of issues. I have had my MINI since '03. I probably spend a total of 1500 a year in parts and maintenance......hell of a lot cheaper than a car payment.

My '11 R55 had the same symptom. High {ressure Fuel pump. CEL would fire, then go off. Fluff fluff fluff die on start. Spudder when 50 yards away. Codes were:
B202C
P062E
B202E
B202B
P025D
P025E

Finally got some OBD2 codes. P0144B, P0420, P2096, P2097. Finding consistent info on these turned out to be harder than I thought it should be. I did find where someone said a firing issue. Pulled the plugs and they didn't look good, even though they were less than a year old. Changed them out and it's a little better, but still not right.

The first three point to the catalytic converter and o2 sensor. That would likely explain the poor running. The last is an overspeed condition that may clear if you fix the underlying cat and o2 sensor problem.

Those codes are referring to an upstream and a downstream right? I haven't looked, but I would think this car has two.

It appears the codes are pointed to the downstream one (post cat), which would make sense if the cat is bad.
