2013 mcs with r90 16in rims question

im going to install a wilwood 4 pot 11.75 rotor setup on my mini this weekend. my questions are... has anyone used this setup with the r90 16in wheel? if they will fit do i need spacers? i run 5mm now. i know the kit sais it fits 15in wheels but from what i read on here a 15 wont fit newer r56s? is this correct? and i know the kit comes with a fitment guide but i dont really understand how to use it to measure for fitment. any advice or imput would be appreciated thank you

To use the fitment template, make a paper outline from the measurements provided by the brake company, and hold them to the inside of the wheel. If the paper template hits the rim, try adding spacer thickness to the template, and try again.

Yep, i dont know anyone running those R90's with Wilwoods., other brakes like JCW single pots and stuff yes. Best would be a template and then measure to be sure.

After test fitment.

Sooo i was going to test fit n hopefully install the kit on saturday. But good ol new england weather stepped in and it snowed friday night. So i had a lil extra time on sunday and figured id give them a test fit. I removed the caliper bracket slid off the capiler and bracket zip tied them out of the way so i could fit my wheel on. Next was the rotor which was a nightmare! I tried to use my impact screwdriver to remove the screw didnt move. Sprayed sum pb blaster let it soak and tried no luck. Tried my small hand torch next didnt work. I had to drill it out so that took quite a while and was getting late. But i threw on the wilwood rotor and caliper and put on the wheel. I didnt have a micrometer to measure but there is about a quarter of an inch if not more room between the caliper and wheel. The caliper to spokes is quite close the barly fits i have 5 mil spacers now so that wont be a issue! So im glad to say if weather is nice i will put them on completly on saturday. i will post pics when done!

I installed the kit this weekend install went pretty well besides the bolts holding the rotor had to be drilled out. I pounded them for a while n threw in the towel. They look great. U cant really notice until u get up to the car which i like. My only dislike so far is the dust. I thought the pads in the kit i believe bp 10 they were called said low dust but def not! They do fit perfect under the wheels and just put on a new set of firehawk indy 500s yesterday also. So i hope this weekend will b nice and i can find sum twisties to play in!

They pretty much are. The stock S rotors are 11.6". This kit just add a 4-piston caliper. Can I ask what you paid for that kit?

Are there OEM R90 wheels available in black? If so where?

I have 2009 Mini Cooper S hardtop coupe. Has 16 inch silver OEM wheels.

No, they only came in silver. You would have to paint them.

They are now sold out. We had the last new stock in the world.

This is what we have left:

Some wheels are down to the 150 ish range that were 350 a piece.

My Coupe has the Silver R119 rims. I know they came in black as well. I think they were available in flat or gloss black as I have seen both.

I did a quick search on ECS's webpage, they have matt black, black or silver available. Since the helmet on my Coupe is silver, I think the silver looks best on my car. I bought a used set of silver R119 from a NAM member last summer. I took the best 2 of those along with my best 2 and made them my summer rims. The other 4 are my winter rims. I had two with some pretty bad road rash and one of the purchased rims had been painted and the other had a chip not quite the size of a dime on it. You might do a search and find some used but, do not expect perfection on a used set of rims. Still not bad for the price, 4 rims for $350.

Should be. As I understand it, about anything for the R56 also works on my R58. Go to their site and add your vehicle then search for R119, that should give you a fit or not fit in the products window.

Seen your car in the Bilstein thread. The gloss black would go nicely with your black top.

exactly! It would go much nicer with black rims, having a black top. They just look good in black. I never really cared much for the silver package that came stock- boring.

so I just checked the (ECS) site, and confirmed they do stock the R119 style, in black. I actually really like the double spoke design. Is that price actually for 4 rims ($274.48) ?

That would be each, not for a set. Like I say, you might be able to find some used. My set was $350 used with two in great shape, two in decent.

Here is the classified link to the set I bought

You could also look for silver or take your stock silver and see if there is a powder coating business near you that could do them gloss black and what they would charge to do so.

Not very flattering pictures but these are in the market place.

He is only approximately 2.5 hours from you also. Might be worth some PM's back and forth.

appreciate your help.

yeah, I considered re-powder coating my silver rims to black, but too much of a hassle. And I’m not into buying used rims (as you really don’t know what they were subjected to by previous owner).

I will consider buying new rims. I’ve gotten a lot of use out of the stock (silver) rims- like 14 years
