Heated seats question

2007 MINI Cooper S with cloth heated seats …

I love the 3-level "warm - hot - buns on fire" selections of the MINI heated seats, particularly on my high-mileage aching back. Not so much on the buns. Has anyone found a way to turn off or unplug the heated seat bottom but still have the heated seat back? Anyone have access to the seat wiring diagram? The preferred option would be a simple unplug so I don't have to permanently change the wiring for future owners.

Dig through newtis.info for wiring. You might have to add a resistor to keep the circuit functional.

The Bentley manual show connector X732 feeds 2 wires to the seat backrest heating (passenger is X0732),
and X733 feeds 3 wires to the driver's seat cushion (terminal 3 goes to the thermistor that regulates the heat,
terminal 4 goes to the heating resistor, and terminal 1 grounds both) (passenger is X0733).

So if you unplug the seat bottom, the system is no longer temperature regulated and won't work properly; it might not work at all.
Page 520-3 has a simpler schematic than in the wiring diagrams and page 520-4 has the locations of the connectors under the seats.

Here's an image of part of the wiring diagram (ELE-189 - ELE-192):

FWIW, the thermistor part of the
circuit failed on the driver side seat
heater in my old R50, and the result
was that it was on “Vesuvius” level
for high and low alike, so I just turned
it on and off every few minutes to keep
the heat to my liking.

All three heat settings feel the same to me, it's been like that since it was new.

Yes, i think it just pulsates the heat more on/off with each level .
