Have to ask the same question I asked MiniToBe here.

R56 AT DME program version: 0089SC0VA61B

I changed back everything to R56 original ecus, now DSC throws a new error code 5DE3 - encoding error...

This is where i'm stuck at https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ding-help.html
I am thinking to use donor R55 manual DME and CAS and key, to reprogram in ISTA-P. But I cannot find any good information online to determine if this is worth a try and how to process it. I am afraid to damage any module. DSC encoding error happened after I swapped the R55 DME & CAS at the 1st time.

I ordered an ECU and just won another one on ebay with a different part number. I'm also waiting on my Ktag to come in. Supposedly arriving sometime next week...in the meantime i got me a flooded clubman to shift my attention lol....I'll keep you posted.
Did you try swapping the JBE, FRM, Cluster...etc also is it possible that abandoned plugs are causing the issue. In other words, it would seem thethe P bus is open!
Also, I wonder what would happen if you actually connect the EGS module?

I don't think swap JBE, FRM, matters. Didn't change cluster, I disconnect the wire that connects to cluster circuit board from R55, but cannot find the wire. R56 I cannot disconnect it from the circuit board, so has to disconnect from the connector, so I need to find the wire to swap the cluster.
BMW manual swap disconnects all wires to EGS, it doesn't make sense that plug into EGS will make DME thinks it's manual.

I was just doing a little light reading thru the tricore docs while disassembling some code and a thought occurred to me. Some tricore ecu's have a section of memory that is designated as OTP (One Time Programming) and it got me to thinking about dealer level tools such as ISTA and INPA. So I did some more digging and sure enough information stored in a memory block designated as OTP cannot be written over by dealer level tools.
Soo.... IF the the manual/auto configuration in your dme is stored in an OTP area it would require either boot mode modification of the OTP area, installation of a new dme (dealers like this option) or replacement of the tricore chip inside the dme to accomplish. The UCB2 setting to activate OTP is in the tricore itself and replacement tricores do not have user configuration block 2 set.
Of course it's midnight right now and between coding and monster energy drinks I'm a bit loopy so maybe someone can poke some holes in my logic.

Hi Tigger, since all series of BMW had successfully done the manual swap with proper coding, also you did F56 manual swap without changing DME. Is it possible that BMW did differently for R5x only to lock the transmission type in OTP?
I swapped R55 modules (DME, CAS, FRM, SZL, JBE, key) into r56, only DME was updated VIN to match R56 VIN. Car can start with only DSC warning on the cluster, which I think is related to a different issue. I tried to update the rest r56 modules to match r55 setup in ISTA-P, but failed to update any module. Is it normal or because I changed the VIN in r55 DME?
what do you recommend to try next?

Leave the R55 ecu's in the R56, make sure VIN in FRM matchestje DME and both are the R56 VIN, update if necessary, check CAS as well. Alter VO from R55 to R56 then try a vehicle update.
If this doesn't do the trick I'm thinking electrical tape to cover any error indicators, or perhaps a couple of pounds of C-4.

I changed VO to removed accessories that r56 doesn't have. I updated r55 FRM to r56 vin. tried to update CAS to r56 vin but came up error message. now all modules have r56 vin except CAS. Opened ISTA-P, still read r55 vin, the measurement plan is based on CAS, and consider all other modules are replaced. I didn't execute the plan since I don't think it will work. Also curious if I drive the car with mismatch CAS/DME, will that be a problem?

I updated r55 VO from 210 to 214. In both r56 or r55 setup, the error can’t be fixed. In the beginning, only DSC warning light (triangle sign), after connecting to r55 DME alone, warning was gone. After connecting r55 DME and CAS, and did a programming in DSC if I remember correctly, the brake, abs and DSC all 3 light are on

Update to all: DME AT setting has been removed by a bmw tuner. unfortunately I am not able to get information on how he made the change. Currently, the DSC/ASC, ABS & BRAKE warning are still on, I believe I screwed up when I did the testing. The tuner suggested to find a local store who has a genuine Autel to give a try. I am going to write a manual swap process in the next couple weeks based on the past 2 months experience.
