Part identification

Hi, everyone.

I was changing the oil on my 2007 R56 when i noticed this part pictured below. It can be moved like a lever. Anyone know what this is and if it is normal? It's the metal piece with the two screw holes.

Thanks.

Sorry, my '07 R56 (non-S) doesn't have one of those, and we are the original owners; I do all the maintenance.

You're missing a "counterweight" on the transmission shifting linkage. You can watch it move if someone else goes thru the gears for you. If you're happy with the way the shifter feels, don't mess with it --- it's "riveted" on, not bolted.
