r56 n18 fuel pump won't turn on

Hey all,
I've been reading through all the mini forums for the last week trying to solve my problem and am at a loss. My wife's 2011 r56 Mini Cooper s (n18 engine) randomly died on her way home a week ago. Pulled the code P0087.
I replaced the low pressure fuel pump and fuel filter. HPFP was replaced by the dealer 2.5 years ago. Car still wouldn't start. Also bought another fuse panel from a junk yard mini in case the JBE/K96 relay was the cause. Still no start.

Using my Foxwell OBD scanner I was able to manually force the fuel pump on and measured 12v at the connector pins. I hear the relay "click" when attempting to activate the fuel pump through the Foxwell. Some reason the pump still would not turn on. Then I tried externally jumping 12v directly to the pump's pins and it turned on. While having 12v jumped I was able to start the car.

Is there some safety mechanism in the car that won't allow the pump to turn on even when receiving 12v from the connector?

Is your mini standard or automatic? Does the engine crank over with no start?

Thanks for the reply. It is standard. And yes it will crank but no start.

Are you getting fuel in the cylinder? Spark at the cylinder? That would narrow it down.

Is there a switch on the clutch pedal so when you push it, it tells the car to activate things, like the fuel pump. Maybe this switch is bad?

@ICEE

NO, the switch on the clutch is just a safety switch for the starter motor and nothing else. The switch prevents the motor from starting up in gear
