Introducing myself and our new MINI!
Hey Folks,
I made a post earlier in the week about a 2007 Cooper Automatic I was looking to purchase.
My wife and I picked it up today for $4,500.. 2007 with 111,000 miles on it.
Recent services include
Oil changes every 3k
some sensors and i think valve cover?
vacuum pump replacement
timing chain, guides, and tensioner @ 107K miles
brake fluid and brakes
tires
spark plugs and one coil pack
and I think some filters
Car drives great, we put about 100 miles on it today. Here are a few things I've noticed
1. There is a faint clunking from the rear end over some bumps. Could this be sway bar bushings or links?
2. The motor seems to jump around a lot when taking your foot on and off the throttle, maybe time for new engine / trans mounts? Easy D.I.Y?
3. The motor surges and sometimes vibrates ever so slightly at idle once warmed up in park and in drive.. is this normal?
4. The digital text on the radio is kinda illegible, can just the radio be replaced or is it one whole unit with the speedometer?
5. Trans shifts great but is there a DIY for the service? I would like to get the fluid and filter changed asap.
Heres a pic!

I will have to check out the sway bar links.
So I noticed this morning on cold start the motor is definitely noisy. I am wondering is this is normal or could be the timing chain rattling? Basically it sounds like the injector ticking by louder and matches the speed of the engine. Goes away once the motor i warmed up after a few minutes.
I pulled the valve cover to check the timing parts and the chain was super tight with no slack. The motor was warm when I checked. Guides where all in great shape too. The mini dealer replaced all these parts just 5K miles ago. Should I replace the tensioner just to be safe?

This is definitely my train of thought.. but looking through videos of timing chain noise on youtube some sound nasty while others sound like normal injector clatter.
