2007 Mini Cooper Base Engine

Well, it finally happened... I need to replace my R56 motor (2007 Mini Cooper Base Model) and I have absolutely no idea which engines are compatible with the thing. I heard that the 2007 (obviously) - 2009 engines are compatible with the engine block, but I'm not entirely sure of the information that I was given.

Is there any place that you guys could recommend me to find a new engine for my poor little car? Within the $2000 mark if at all possible.

Thank you in advance!

P.s. rebuilding the engine is completely out of the question. It's done for.

(It will start, but this violent knocking comes from one of the cylinders, it won't go more than 20 mph when it DOES go, and it's just really not in the best of shape.)

where are you located?

2007 to 2010 R55 and R56 are the same N12 engine. Check car-part.com for engines. Knocking could be as simple as replacing bearings. what diagnostics have you done on the car?

I'm located in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

There's so many things wrong with it that I couldn't even begin to list everything that the codes were running. It was all engine related though. I have a better description on this thread: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...ml#post4277686

'07 - '10 eh? That'd work out perfectly. I think a '10 would be a LOT better in the car either way.

I'll give that website a try too! Thank you for the lead!

Oh I remember that post and i had my input there too lol...The question is, is the car worth spending another 2k? can you post it as is and sell it once and for all? if you want, you can ship it to me and I can take care of it, rebuilt, swap, diagnosis etc...I charge 800 for rebuilds (labor only).

check autotransport411.com for shipping quotes to philly pa 19111.

Hey, I thought this thread had been dead before actually noticing this reply. I'm wondering if you still would be willing to do this for me!

Charging $800 is incredibly fair in this case. I'll check the shipping quotes asap.

Roger, we're in Clawson, MI about a 2.5 hour commute/tow from you. We have been reliably getting engines with less than 30k miles on them out of the parts yards.

Feel free to give us a call and we can give you a quote on the job.
