So, I'm full of questions today.....
 

My car does not have the felt mat, insulator, pad hootus under the hood. I asked the salesman and he said it was not supposed to. I didn't believe that as I have never seen a vehicle in 30 plus years or so since the beginning of them that did not have one as standard. Anyway, I left it alone. So earlier today I'm watching how to vids and noticed a car (not sure which model) that did have one. So should there have been on on there from the factory, or what's the scoop about that? Anyone else NOT have one? I'm not digging that much.

My 2012 Clubman S did not have any under-bonnet insulation or scoop heat shielding.

Purchased new correct? Maybe they resricted the cooling effect of the air under there?

Since you have a turbo, I would recommend getting the Hood Heat Shield, which to my knowledge has always been an aftermarket part. It's what I have on my R55.

However, if you want better protection to ensure your hood scoop won't melt, you can get a shield for the turbo as well. Way Motor Works has the full kit that's an easy install.

I like the turbo wrap better than the heat shield, it keeps heat in the hot side of the turbocharger improving the thermal efficiency of the turbo and it greatly reduces the under hood temperature.

Not all MINIs had them, nobody (that I know of) really knows why.

I bought one and installed for grins, just because I could. It has made no appreciable difference in performance, although my hood (bonnet) is noticeably cooler to the touch when the engine is warmed up.

btw I actually LOL'd when I read "hootus". I'm going to use that now.

My 08 had no shield, but when the dealer replaced a warped scoop, they installed the pad and metal shield. My 13 didn't have a shield either, but I stole the one from the 08.
