I've got a hard one for you all code p2885

What's up guys, I'll give you a little history with this code and my car. About a month ago I was driving around and my car threw the code p2885 charging control pressure min, I cleared the code after looking around for something that could cause this. I heard that this code is basically the ecu seeing a discrepancy in the boost. Well coming home from the college today I was getting on the highway and noticed that my car ran 21.3 psi. I'm on a stage one Cobb accessport tune.. The car threw the code again and half filled engine light. My bov works fine, I don't know what else could be causing this. Have any suggestions??

-Thanks!

I would double check your diverter valve seal' That seal will imitate wastegate failure' or it's possible your wastgate is going

I did do the bov recently so I'll check that. If it's the wastegate that means new turbo right?

BigBoost Nov 18, 2016 07:24 PM

Yeh' I would definitely doublecheck' sometimes They get pinched or squeezed '

As far as the wastegate goes that's kind of a tough question' at the dealer we just replace the entire turbo' it's kind of dumb but I guess it saves them money in the long run! If it was just the actuator valve I'm sure you can replace it' to be completely honest with you I've never even tried with a mini! I replaced them on Volkswagens and Audis ' I should pull out my stock turbo and play around with it'

Check divertex valve . Apply vacuum to the waste gate make sure the rod moves. Check your vacuum lines, make sure they aren't swollen from oil or routed wrong. Probably a turbo though.

Could I be getting this code because of my forge DV, venting the boost to the atmosphere? Or would it show as another code?

BigBoost Nov 19, 2016 11:28 AM

You know it could be very possible' but I've ran a forge BOV for about a year with no code's ' and now am currently running turbo-smart dual port with no code's '

Did you double check to make sure all vac-line's and Electrical is plug in right' double check the vacuum lines ' they are pretty easy to get switch around' or throw you're stock valve back in and see if code pop's up!

I only have the adapter for the stock bov, if I'm thinking right there should only really be 3 vacuum lines to check correct? (Intake hose, hotside boost tube, cold side charge pipe (after intercooler))

Any updates?

Boost Pressure Control Unit bolts on under the inlet manifold, worth replacing the vacuum pipes that go to it at same time..I replaced mine when I shut it off sounded like a BUZZZ..PITA to get to but I did it...I believe there is a DIY on youtube..
Bought mine from ECS Tuning..Actually when I finally got to it the vacuum hose was off..but since I was there I changed it to the new one..

This isn't a hard one at all. In fact it's one of the most common issues and has been covered here multiple times.

Most likely changing your diverter valve will fix it or just getting rid of that adapter. Otherwise check wastegate.

The fact that there are multiple causes for this makes it a bit trickier for most who don't have the diagnostic capabilities, and don't want to keep throwing parts at the car until something sticks.

The diverter valve does fail, the wastegate pressure conversion solenoid does fail, if the aux coolant pump fails the car will end up in limp mode with a 2885 code, as well as the chance of permanent turbo damage (or even again, leaving you in limp mode with a 2885 code).

The wastegate does wear out on these cars and will not fully seat under boost also causing a limp mode underboost condition (accompanied by a 2885 code), and most times when this is the culprit you hear the gate fluttering around in the exhaust housing and it sounds tinny.

P2885 - Boost Pressure Control Deviation, plausibility

I will note that I've seen this code thrown with some individuals who ended up needing to do a carbon clean up. Info on that here: http://www.pelicanparts.com/techarti...n_Cleaning.htm. Not saying it's your cause, but something to look into/check.

Next, I'd recommend checking every boost pipe and vacuum pipe that you can to rule out a possible vacuum leak. If you have a smoke tester, I'd go this route to help you find one if there is a leak in the system. Also, I'd test the wastegate and wastegate vacuum actuator. You can follow the instructions in this tech article here: Mini R56 Testing the Engine Turbocharger Wastegate | Pelican Parts DIY Maintenance Article. Check your turbo seals as well. Most of what I have run across and seen with this code has been related to the turbo somehow - be that it was a bad turbo, wastegate, seals, etc. Good luck and let us know what you find.

P2885 is a bad waste gate. You can get a replacement housing.
