2007 Cooper S Won't Start

Hello guys and girls,

I had the tires on my 2007 Cooper S (R56) rotated last Friday, and everything seemed to be fine.
On Monday, when starting the car, the Tire Pressure light came on, but soon went off, but the Brake, DSC and ABS lights stayed on. I figured they would all go away after shutting the car off, but didn't.
Yesterday, I tried to start my Mini, but it would not. I was able to unlock the door, but once the key fob was inserted and I pressed the Start button, nothing happened. Not a single light came on.
After trying a few times, I figured there was most likely a battery problem, tried locking the door with the fob, but couldn't. I had to manually lock it.
My S has 53,000 miles and it still has its original battery.

Has this ever happened to anyone?
Any idea what I should try first?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

If you've got 9 yrs on the original battery you beat me by about 5yrs. Certainly the battery is the most likely culprit. Did you try to jump start it or use a battery charger?

Thanks for responding!

No, I have not, yet. It's been raining quite a bit. But I will.

Dead battery, almost certainly.

You can prove it by connecting a digital voltmeter or multi-meter between + and - terminals.

As stated above, probably the battery. After you get it running, you still need to reset the TPMS. Rotating tires "confuses" the ECU, causing a TPMS error. It goes away "sort of" by itself --- there will still be a small triangle between your odometer indicators. I have a terrible time resetting it --- can't remember when and how long to keep the button pressed.

Bentley manual has instructions for resetting the indicators, and how to test the battery with a voltmeter. If you do your own work, this manual is a highly recommended investment.

Replace your battery.
Reset your TPMS from your tach.

Done

Update!

Thank you all!

Update...

I checked the air pressure on all 4 tires, replaced the battery and reset the TPMS. But I must say the Brake, DSC and ABS lights are still on, as you can see in the picture.

The battery the car came with turned out to be smaller than the Group 47 purchased one. I have seen 3 different sizes. I guess they use whatever is available at the time.

This is my 2nd Mini, I owned an R53 before this one, and I doubt I will ever own another one. These cars are built like crap.

What next? How do I get rid of those lights?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Mini likes to have a new battery "registered" by the dealer. I'm told that this process tells the ECU to stop compensating for a dying battery. Unfortunately, this process is "dealer exclusive" --- at least 1 hr labor. Considering the electronics sensitivity, there's a good chance this is your problem.

You might also try resetting all the applicable service monitors --- like you did for the TPMS reset. This might be part of the dealers "registration" process --- IDK.

I have problems with my first aftermarket battery replacement since the spec were not enough for my car.

Can you post the new BOSCH specs? I can't read it on the pics

Battery Specs.

miniuy,

When I purchased my battery, last week, it had 35% off. I've just noticed this week it only has 25% off. It should be around $132 + Tax.
I picked mine up, so there was no installation charge.
