Does this really do anything? Is it easy to do on a Mini?

 

On the Coopers it does nothing, as the Cooper is still port injected.

On the S models it is a nice habit to get into, especially after having a carbon blast done. We have customers who are doing a Seafoam treatment every other oil change and their valves are staying significantly cleaner.

It is a relatively easy job to do, but you will get check engine lights during the process and need a scan tool to clear the codes.

well, then it was funny in my Cooper Base (white cloud).
I did not know about it is not cleaning anything on the Base models.

 

This is interesting! My daughter's 2011 N18 (bought about 3K miles back) is at 60K miles and we have no indication of a carbon cleaning. I'm thinking this might be a good idea.

 

The N18 cars were less prone to carbon buildup issues than the N14. We have yet to blast an N18, but I'm sure others have done them.

If you haven't done it yet I might suggest the Seafoam treatment just to see what kind of result you get. It's a cheap fix and relatively easy, but you will need a scan tool to clear the codes you get from the cleaning process.

I ordered one for my daughter's 2011 Cooper S. We'll see if any difference is apparent when I use it at 60K miles.
