Automatic Door Closing "Feature"

Has anyone come up with a way to keep the door from closing on you at inopportune times?

Which door are you talking about, never heard of the auto-close on a MINI ? Or are you talking about hatch struts that are sagging ?

Maybe inspect the door stop/check to see if it isn't faulty on your R56. The door check keeps the door from opening too far and allows the door to hold an open position. When door checks begin to fail, the door will no longer stay open and tends to close on you when you release it while entering or exiting the vehicle. The good thing about them is they're fairly inexpensive and easy to replace. We have them HERE if needed. We have a DIY that can help you replace yours on our site under MINI > Tech Info (tab at top) > R56 Articles > Body > Door Check Replacing. Let me know if you have any questions.

You can spray them and add some grease but it they still pop and click you have the parts linked here. I would also spray #2 and #3 hinge as they will help pivot the door better.

Also inspect the door brake and make sure the little bolt on the door and to the body are tight.

Thanks

This issue is one of the few things I always hated about my MINIs. Even my '11 that I ordered would do this when brand new. If you don't make sure the door is settled after opening it it will often bounce back and close on you.

Now I just make a game out of it. See if I can get out of the car and let the door close itself without me getting hit
