Cranks but doesn't start.

Hi, how can I check for spark and/or fuel? The engine cranks perfectly but doesnt start. Compression is good on all cylinder.

What year car is this? Is it an S or Cooper? Miles?

HPFP been replaced yet?

The ignition system is rather simple I wouldn't suspect it's an issue, unless you've broken or removed a ground strap.

What are your compression numbers?

Has any work been done recently to cause the situation?

What if any stored codes are present?

Hi its a 2008 mini s. With 100kmiles. Original hpfp.
Things I did to trouble shoot:
Checked for spark and fuel. Both are absent.
Obd2 reader wont link.
Jumped with another car.
Checked all fuse and swapped relays around.
Compression on all cylinder is good.

I replaced a piston and placed everything back. The car started and ran rough. Then I noticed that the ground strap on the ignition coil harness was placed incorrectly. And the lower intercooler hose clamp was loose. So I turned the engine off and fixed the problem. I tried to start the car again but to no avail. It just cranks.
Im going to try anew battery and check more on connections that might have gotten loose..

Im having issues with my 2007 S, 230k.....how did you check for spark and fuel? Mine turns over but wont start. Would a bad fuel pump cause these cars not to start?

Hi I checked the spark by following this:

To check for fuel I loosened the nut slightly on the tube coming out of the hpfp to the injectors. Fuel should spray a little when you crank the engine. You should hear the fuel pump on the rear seat prime when you turn the ignition on.

Is you compression good?

I was told the compression is good.....how can I check?

Use one of these: http://m.harborfreight.com/compressi...-pc-69885.html or check autozone or advance auto if they rent this out.

The guy in the youtube I sent you also has a tutorial on testing the compression on his channel.

Was the hpfp recalled by mini on these r56's?

No recall, some people getting them replaced in Cali under emissions :

Fixed the problem with a new dme. If any body needs to clone their broken dme to a used one the guys at precision auto did it for only $245. You can supply your own used dme or get it from them.

Not recalled but had an extended warranty placed on the 07-09 S models, 10 year/ 120k miles.

As for the DME needing replaced, I've only ever seen that happening once and that was because another shop did a compression test with the coils still plugged in and the ground strap removed from the valve cover bolt causing some sort of voltage backfeeding to the DME.
