R56 N12 Justa coolant leak

Hi guys. I hope you guys can answer this question for me. It would be awesome if the staffs at ECS can give me some advice here. They have always give me the right answers so I just want to give them some rep.

Short version: In the 07 R56 justa, does coolant flow though the oil filter housing? (non-turbo so no heat exchanger?)

Anyway. I recently purchased an used 07 cooper and recently the car started to drip coolant under the exhaust manifold (Stole Dez's photo. Hope he doesn't mind!)

https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...d-leaking.html

So from Dez's thread the techs at Mini found out that his coolant leak is actually from his oil filter housing. However, I have the same leak but since Dez's is a S and mine is a justa, I would assume that the oil filter housing doesn't have any coolant flowing through. So my questions is if that's the case, would it be my thermostat housing that is actually leaking since it's right above it?

I am here. :)

On the N12 you dont have the heat exchanger, but MINI has the gasket that goes between the housing , 11427558521 & 11428643758

One section has the oil and other ones are plate block for the coolant, still can leak coolant.

Thanks

Yes you're right. I just went back to check again and the housing is leaking coolant. Thanks again! You guys are the best!

You are welcome. Sorry to hear about the leak, now you know the fix.

ok then one more questions. How much oil and coolant am i expecting to lose when taking the housing out? lol

PS: I wish I can buy from you guys. The canadian exchange is horrible right now :(

ECSTuning 09-18-2015 12:09 PM

Yea, cant control the USD to CND . lol

Not too much but you will get a quart of oil and about 2 cups of coolant, but I did an oil change anyway with mine and cleaned up the residue, also cleaned up so no cross contamination.

I drained the all coolant and oil ahead of time. I did not want oil in the coolant and vice versa. The more you take away off the bat the less cross contamination. Did it and cleaned up and there was minimal residue.

So one container 1 1/2 gallons of coolant mixed 50/50 with distilled water and an oil change kit and i was gtg.

Lots of questions today haha

Did you remove the exhaust manifold to get to the housing?

ECSTuning 09-21-2015 06:57 AM

Done them on the Cooper S ( Turbo ) many times, you remove the DP only . On the Cooper ( non Turbo ) you might have remove the exhaust manifold cause it does come close to the oil housing. I cannot see how close the manifold comes to the housing and if there is room to remove it.
