Mini cooper S 2009 alarm won't come on
Hello everyone,
I recently purchased my mini a couple of weeks ago, had the clutch replaced by a good mechanic for 700 bucks (including labor) and everything is now working outstanding on it except for the alarm. I am not sure if it is supposed to beep or honk when you arm the car, but it doesn't. It does however lock the car. I also tried holding the trunk open button to see if the panic honking starts (says it will in the manual) and it doesn't. In addition the little light on top of the RPM's gauge does not blink or even come on when locked or unlocked. I even tried locking the car with the windows open and putting my key far away (as its one of those keys you can start your car without it as long as it is within proximity) and opened the door from the inside and no beeping or anything. Is there a fuse, setting or something I should look at? The horn works by the way if I press the horn so not sure if the alarm uses that same horn. |
It sounds perfectly normal :) Because your MINI doesn't come with an alarm. IT just come with a immobilizer as standard. If your car is built before Sept 09, your car should be 'pre wired' for the alarm. What it means is you can fit the alarm without a big hassle. In order to make the alarm operable, you need to get an alarm retrofit kit and find someone to code it. Or if you just want to make the LED blink, you can just code it. Panic alarm is only available if you have the actual alarm. The alarm will not blow the horn, it uses an independent siren that beeps really cute when lock and unlock, but really scary when its activated.

Sounds like you don't have an alarm. You have to have the kit installed and then coded to the car to make the light flash on the tach, and beep when you lock.
We have an affordable kit if you end up wanting to add it, you just don't use the cabrio sensors. But it will give you the beeping. http://www.waymotorworks.com/alarm-k...nvertible.html |
Thanks guys, WayMotorWorks, so if I get this alarm do I still have to get it coded at the dealer? In addition will it make the tach light do the nice heart beat flashing?

Whats the production date on the 2009 ?
There is an early alarm and a later version in 2009 : 65120443179 vs 65730445530 http://www.ecstuning.com/Mini-2009-Cooper-R56-S-Coupe-L4_1.6L_N14B16A/Exterior/Alarm/ https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.nor...757870ed2d.jpg |
I don't know the manufacturing date but looked at the door and it said the following.
Aug 10/08 the car is a 2009 so I am guessing they manufactured it in August of 2008 |
looks like oct 08 to me.......... MM/YY :)
|
that's what I thought but it said "AUG 10/08"
So unless AUG means something else, perhaps an acronym in german for manufacturing date :P |
try the vin decoder
http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html It can tell you everything about your car. By the mfd year, your car does sounds like pre wired for the alarm. |
Yep so it looks like you need the 65730445530 MINI part version ( For vehicles with production to 9/2009 ) lined above . :)

checked the VIN's website and it does show Oct 2008, thanks for that info. So ECSTuning, does that mean that if I buy this will it make the little blinking light come on (on top of the tachometer)? Do I need to take it in to the dealer to get anything programmed?

Yes, its will need coded. Then it will flash the led light and have the audio beep when you lock and unlock. Its pretty loud. |

If you think it's too loud you can disable the beep in the tach using the key settings. It will be the padlock with the speaker next to it options.
