All day I've spent trying to remove my intake Vanos solenoid, it feels loose, it turns left to right, it wiggles a little bit but won't come out! I would try the flat head screwdriver approach but I dont nor plan on removing the intake manifold. I'm sore from wiggling at it for hours taking breaks here and there, never heard anyone have this much trouble removing a intake Vanos solenoid.
Thank you SPRINTCARS, I finely got if off, it took quite a bit of prying behind the metal plate that has the hole for the 10 mm bolt. I can't believe how clean it is, especially the metal screen. A credit to BG EPR Engine Performance Restoration PN 109, I made a thread about it and no replies. Oh well, shoulder shrug.

That's an old one. Debri can get into the spring area and cause codes. New ones have screens covering the springs. I grab mine with channel locks. Tape wrapped around the teeth. Then use a screwdriver and pry between the head and the channel locks.
Do Vanos solenoids while completely functional and zero codes lose performance do to wear & tear when you have high mileage on them? I can't compare them to anything since I never owned a car with any type of adjustable cams, I had a vacuum operated EGR Valve.
Well, a neighbor lady of mine has a Honda Element, 2005. Over 110k. She changes her oil very infrequently, and as a result, her VANOS solenoid screen became clogged, causing all sorts of driveability concerns and codes, to the point where the car quit running. I could have cleaned the screen, but decided to replace the solenoid after a good oil and filter change. Running just fine almost 2 years later. But...I wonder if she is now keeping up on her oil changes. I am just saying....change your dang oil and filter at least every 5k. Cheap insurance.
