This is a classic sign of your high pressure fuel pump or the pump in the gas tank is failing (HPFP). You need to have both pumps tested, they test each pump separately. The fact that your friend sprayed what I'm guessing is carb spray may be a sign your engine is staving from low fuel.

Mini USA has extended the HPFP to 10 years/120,000 miles, but if it turns out to be the in-tank gas pump you pay.

Here is a thought unplug the MAF! won't hurt to try....Mine runs without it and will not start with it plugged in...Not good but till I get to the bottom of this is. Then its on the trade block..too many issues...Good luck

That's weird, perhaps a short? I would be interested in your solution if you find it. Either the ECU is retarded or there's a wiring problem, I suspect a relay gone haywire. Where's your thread on this?

The Issue was a loose cold side Intercooler pipe...I deleted the Muffler stock pipe..and it kept coming loose...so purchased a metal pipe 8" by 2"..clamped on nice a nd tight BOOM! no check engine light and power is back...MAF Connected and 02 connected...
Crazy! Turbo world we live in...

Happened to me before. Starts kept failing and car kept stalling. Ran a bottle of Lucas fuel injector cleaner, filled up gas, and drove hard. Smooth starts ever since. Worth a shot. Like $3.50 at Walmart i think.

OBD reader for codes? If you don't have one, invest in it or get a phone app and dongle.
