R56 Replacing brakes
Replacing brakes
Getting ready to replace the pads and rotors on all 4 corners of my 2010 Mini Cooper S. I am happy with sticking with something comparable to OEM to keep costs at a fair range but on the other hand I wouldn't mind a bit of performance. I'm looking for any recommendations for either or. Thanks in advance.

I installed a set of EBC Red Stuff front pads and Centric high-carbon front rotors on my 2011 MCS manual about 2000 miles ago. Very happy with them. Dusting is much less than the factory pads (not as dark, at least), and the bite seems a bit better. The rear will get the same treatment very soon. Amazon had a good price on the pads, and RockAuto had the best price I could find for the rotors.
Check out our WMW EBC Red Brake package, better than stock, more affordable and less brake dust.

We have all the parts individual too if you don't need the whole kit. This is what we use on our personal cars and MINI's we do brake jobs on in the shop.

I've heard the Akebono pads are good and the factory brake wear sensor works with them. They are ceramic not semi-metallic like the oem pads so the dust is far less. I don't understand why BMW and MINI doesn't switch to a ceramic pad.

I've had the Akebono pads for ~40k miles already with ATE rotors. I can confirm that they are very similar to performance of the OEM with slightly less bite. Brake dust is night and day difference from OEM, as these are significantly cleaner. Also, at least from my research years ago, most aftermarket pads and rotors will be better price wise than OEM.

If you will go to the Way Motor Works web site, select R56, sub-select 'brakes' you will find EBC Red Stuff brake pads made for that model. I'll bet they thought to make them so they'll work for that.
