Would like to try the PIAA blades next monsoon, but I am happy with some cheap Pilot brand that has white arms and RainX. It doesn't rain much here, but when it does it really comes down in buckets.

Used RainX for years, what grgramps posted above with the video solves the chattering problem on any car but especially those with the longer blades like we have on the Mini.

The wipers on my 2011 R56 were starting to come apart, so I got a pair of Bosch one-piece blades from NAPA. Don't recall the name... I also thoroughly cleaned my windshield, and applied Rain-X, following thier application instructions. Not surprisingly, the Rain-X works fine, as it does on all my other cars/trucks. And the wipers are extremely quiet, when I do actually use them. IIRC, the wipers were around $12.00 each. Time will tell if I need to switch to the PIAA wipers. But I love Rain-X! Be sure to wipe some onto your blades when you treat your windshield. Seems to help.

That is so true. I reckon 99% of cases of chatter are caused by this. Of course the Mini dealership cannot read the blade angle off the OBD port, so they don't know how to fix it - technicians not mechanics!

My personal memory aid for remembering how to set the blade angle is that snow ploughing is bad and will cause chatter. But really all you need is to get the wiper blade frame square to the screen.

Correcting this is much, much less work than taking a car to a dealership.

Bosch Icon wiper blades, Rain-X repellant, and Rain-X washer fluid. Never any chatter on either of our 2010 Justas.

Here is an interesting twist. Went out to adjust them, turned them on to see if the chatter was on the up or down swing, no chatter at all. So they only chatter when its raining, nice. Still can't believe they changed the arm making it so difficult to just go buy some aftermarkets.

Perhaps they only chatter when you are moving? The air pressure changes the angle of the blade into a "plowing" orientation?

Well, I received the PIAA Si-tech from Mini Mania today and they DO NOT fit on the 2013 MCS. The Mini Mania website is wrong. But Mini Mania was awesome and issued a RMA immediately.

jkapinos 08-07-2014 03:47 PM

Yes the do not fit. Ordered them almost a year ago. That is assuming that the 2013 style is the same as the ones on the coupe and roadster. Only are cars and a few BMW's use this style wiper.

Had to take off the plastic panels below the wipers to run wires from the new driving lights and when I put the wiper arms back on - Chatter! Used that trick of slightly bending the arm with an adjustable wrench and in seconds no more chatter!

I'll try that.
