Well my MA said a slot might open up for final 2014 Clubman production, so may jump on that as at least I can spec it how I want. Not as big a fan of the look, but it is a bit more practical with the extra space I suppose. In the meantime, I may have found a new 2013 hardtop in Colorado! Has 8 miles on it.
It has some extra stuff I didn't really want and those awful 15" 7-hole wheels, but figure I can always replace those later. They are offering $1750 off its retail of $26,195. I could have done without the $1000 Highclass Grey paint job as that's money I could have saved, but I heard it looks awesome. Other than that, it has the loaded package (premium, city pack and MINI Connected) and technology package. Also has sports seats (cloth), chrome exterior/caps and striped alloy interior. Plus I have friends in Denver and the drive back wouldn't be all that bad.
At least I have leads!

Sounds like it's a toss up. If I were you I think I would opt for the Clubman. Get it the way you want it and it would be the same but different. I bet there is some pictures that have some awesome graphics.

The reason I'm looking at the 2013 is because it has everything I would configure but also all the extras in the city pack (alarm, park distance, folding mirrors, comfort entry, etc.) plus chrome line exterior/caps and the paint job for about the same price as the configuration I would choose for a 2014 Cooper and 2014 Clubman (although the Clubman is about $1000 more overall).
So it breaks down as follows:
2013 Cooper
$24,440 (incl. $1500 discount / $250 loyalty discount)
2014 Cooper
$24,395 (incl. $250 loyalty discount)
2014 Clubman
$25,645 (incl. $500 loyalty discount / $500 you-ification cash)
Of course I would have to fly to Denver, pick it up and drive it home but that would only cost a few hundred $ and can combine it with visiting friends.
On the other hand, the bonus of the Clubman is ordering it, more space and 0.9% APR, but still no guarantee I can get a spot in production. I guess I'll factor that in when I hear from my MA.
So yeah, not really sure. I really want to get a new MINI with the R56 interior while I can though, but wanted to also see how the price compared to how I would spec a 2014 Cooper.

Possibly found a couple more matches in Cincinnati. It's getting tiring working my way across the country looking at the dealer sites lol. I'm to the Northeast - god knows how many dealers there are there ha! No word from MA on Clubman production slot, so not sure that will happen.
it has a very "thick" appearance to it....appears like there are 7 or 8 coats of paint-it's that dense and deep, at least to me.
It was on an MCS I was comparing to my JCW...it was calling my name........
Oh, trust me, that paint is worth the $1000 in my opinion. it is simply stunning. in different light it gives off a different shimmer. It has an almost emerald blue color to it at night under artificial light.

Today it's $4000 off MSRP I just checked a few dealers out here:
Thinking of a 1st Mini - am I too old?
Am I too old for a Mini, I'm 60. I've have about 10 suv's in the last 28 years and kind-a liking the 2014 Countryman S. I want something smaller (getting rid of my 2014 Mazda CX5 Touring - too big for me). I'd like something cool looking, I'm NOT dead after all! I've been doing online research for the Juke (like the style, but looks a little cheap inside), the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (good size but I'm reading it's sluggish). Any thoughts??

I'm 65, just retired, and I'm considering doing the 'Late mid-life crisis car purchase'....... an F56 Mini S or JCW... Back in a previous lifetime when I was a sales-rep on the road, I owned a small 1972 BMW '2002Tii' and later, an '87 Acura Legend. I have the bug again to get a sports sedan...
I'm just trying to make the numbers work, tax-wise..... SHEESH.........
If you can afford it, do it.......... enjoy...

I must say I don't share your like of the Juke. To me, it is the Pontiac Aztec of the 21st century. Looks like a giant bug. Nissan seems to pride themselves in trying to one-up themselves every year with continually ugly designs, IMO.
Well so far have talked them down $2250 and they will swap the 15" 7-hole wheels with the 15" star spoke wheels. Yay! So at this point it is the exact same price as I would spec a 2014, but with the added features of the city pack and the expensive paint job/chrome exterior. Think it is probably worth the fly/drive as I'm still not fond of the F56. Guess it'll depend if I can get the 0.9 APR offer they have right now on all 2014's except the F56. Lowest I can get on F56 is 3.19 if I still want the loyalty credit, etc. Excited!

If they won't budge, tell them you'll go ahead and order a 2014 from your local dealer.
They want those 2013s gone, just making you work for it.
Irony
How ironic, as I live in Seattle and Seattle MINI is who I was dealing with LOL! Anyway, this is what they told me:
"The reason that we cannot get a 2013 from another dealership is because all dealerships have "punched" these cars which means that they have marked them as sold so that they could get more inventory brought to them. All dealerships have done this with their 2013 inventory. Only that dealership can sell it because it is already considered "sold." I hope that makes sense."
No less irritating, but guess it makes sense in a way. I guess I will try to shop around and see what happens...

The problem also is that the dealerships always want to have as much of the new stock on their floor as they can - MINI dealerships are keenly aware of the opinions of consumers regarding the R56 and F56 models. And absolutely, if MINI USA thinks a dealership has unloaded all of their 2013 stock that same number of 2014s AT MINIMUM will be allocated to them...However, it's a fine line. If they sell each and every one of their new remaining R56s they are dependent upon only the F56s they received (each dealer is allocated a specific amount of MINIs by MINI USA and typically NOT all at once). Sell them all to customers so no more inventory available... Oops. So the best bet for the dealer - have affiliates, agreements with other local dealerships, find another dealership desperate to unload some of the stock they keep paying flooring costs on which just keeps costing them money month after month, or play accounting shell games (last the most common). If the "dealership" buys the remaining inventory, there's no more flooring costs to pay, but now they've tied up their own money so they want their equity back... Some of the dealerships don't want to make a deal? Sure they do - they want their money. Period. Either way (not yelling here but emphasizing) TALK TO BILL and see what he can do for you - I can't stress that enough. Just keep in mind this late in the game the only new 2013s remaining out there may just be automatics or models you really may not want, but you never know. Happy hunting and say "hey" to Bill for us!

Heed these words my fellow Seattlite: STAY AWAY FROM THAT AREA!!! (particularly north of it near the general Salem area).....
Well that fell through. They just wouldn't budge anymore and it just isn't worth going to CO for it or paying to ship it here at the price they wanted. Plus I must admit I was feeling a bit nervous buying a car that's been sitting on the lot the past 8 months and found out it now has 20 miles instead of the original 8 in the pics - not a huge deal, but still. I couldn't even get a freaking loyalty credit and the APR ranges they were mentioning were awful - and I have excellent credit. Why did they have to change the damn design THIS year ha. *sigh* Super frustrated... might just get a Mazda 3 at this point.
