Will a F56 steering wheel work with a R56
Not sure if anyone would know yet but thought I would throw the idea out there. Can you put a F56 steering wheel with airbag work/fit in a R56?
I really like the look of the new steering wheel and would like to try it. http://www.bmwblog.com/wp-content/up...06-750x750.jpg |

I can tell you the F56 steering wheel will unlikely fit the R56. The Steering wheel pads and wires are a little different set up. The slip ring behind the wheel is different with the wiper stalks. The airbag is different , on top of the electronics and so on. I have been in the F56 in person.
For R56 dirrect fit upgraded sterring wheels: here are some options. If you have the three spoke wheel: This is the JCW Leather wheel that is normal thickness but has a red stitching on the inside. Found on newer JCW's and JCW Countryman. I would recommend if you do this yourself to make sure you disconnected the airbag to do the install as you don't want to trip the airbag light. |
Thanks for all the great info!

You are welcome. :)

Working on the R50.
Why not on the R56? :) Surely there is a hard wiring work, as ECSTuning said. |
Nope the f56 ( gen 3 ) version will not fit the R56 ( gen 2 ) or R50 ( gen 1 ) unless you highly modify or something, The threads are different also. Lots of work, just better to get a custom wheel using that same Generation or get the JCW version of that generation.
