What bumper is this?
1 Attachment(s)
Greetings all. My girlfriend recently bought her '07 MCS, but isn't much into the forum thing, so I decided to create an account here to hopefully poll some expertise. After only about 2 months of having it, she managed to back into someone (women, amirite?), and I told her I'd help fix it. It looks to me like it's just the bumper cover, so a simple matter of a swap (and paint if I can't find a chili red unit), but after a few hours of scouring the internet, I can't seem to find a bumper that looks like hers.
Attachment 195964 TL;DR does anyone know what bumper this is/where it can be found? |
That is from the MINI Aero Kit. No longer available I believe.
|
Like ra2fanatic said, it's an older aero kit. The only compaies that may have the part are either Sewell parts: http://mini.sewellparts.com/ or ECS tuning: http://www.ecstuning.com/.
|
I was afraid of that. I'm guessing it's a one piece bumper as well, despite appearing to have a seam just below the fog light plates, so that lower section can't be salvaged.
Recommendations for a good quality replacement at a decent price? |
Yea, Its the Aero Kit. Sometimes refered to as the sport Aero kit or Factory Aero kit on the Gen 2 MINIs (2007+). They came in PDC and non PDC options. Looks like you don't have the Parking Distance Control sensors on the bumper so you have non PDC version.
http://dbmini.us/wp-content/uploads/...-aerokit-1.jpg You can get the pieces, Its just not a factory option any more. #1 Rear Bumper - Primed Part # 51127199878 ( Non PDC version ) http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51127199878/ http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/q/k/239.png Thanks and hope that helps. If you need any other pieces let me know. |
Actually, looks like this is it:
http://mini.sewellparts.com/oem-cata...R56S-2007.html Thanks EDIT: Didn't see ECSTuning's post til after I posted. Thanks a bunch. How would I have her check just to make sure it doesn't have the PDC? |
Its a one piece bumper like the photo i posted above and comes primed. You can see #1 and the tow link circle cap / trim /and hardware are not included.
|
Yeah, I got that part, I just don't know what the PDC looks like or if you can tell if the car has it just by looking (sorry, newb ). You said you didn't think hers did based on the picture, wasn't sure if that was definite or a guess.

Not a problem.
You don't have PDC on that bumper :) So that linked part above is good. I was just explaining all the options and informing people in-case they come by this thread. But if you did. They look like little circles with a circular sensor, two in the center of the bumper, they are painted to match, and then little circle sensors in the rear corner vent trim. |
Gotcha, I've seen those before, but I just wasn't sure that was the right name for them for MINI in particular (silly proprietary acronyms...). Thanks a bunch for your help. Once I get it torn down and see what all needs replaced, I'll probably be ordering from ya!
|
Great, yea that's what they are called.
Glad I could help. |

I considered that, but it looks like the exhaust exits to the right of center...?

The Aero bumpers are available , The JCW Aero Rear bumper could be a possible change.
That's just a MINI generic picture used for parts diagram, sometimes they use the same diagram for different models. http://www.realoem.com/bmw/diagrams/z/m/220.png For the Cooper S it comes out the rear center. Rear JCW Aerodynamic Bumper Panel - W/O PDC http://www.ecstuning.com/Search/SiteSearch/51120404110/ http://c1552172.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/386892_x600.jpg Then you would need all the lower trim , each side grille , center grille , and the lower diffuser with the center exhaust ridge. You could then upgrade the the JCW GP2 rear diffuser. The GP 2 diffuser takes the location of part #7 but with the center exhuast bump http://www.ecstuning.com/News/MINI_R56_R57_Cooper_S_JCW_Hardtop_Convertible_GP2_ Rear_Diffuse_Update_2007_2008_2009_2010_2011_2012_ 2013/ http://c1521972.r72.cf0.rackcdn.com/...3305_large.jpg |
Great information once again. The only reason to switch to the JCW bumper would be if we managed to find one used for less than the aero unit (or less than the aero unit + paint if we somehow found one in the right color already). So I guess it's just a matter of factoring the extra cost of the diffuser into those calculations.
|
Yep, You are welcome.
Let me know if you want to go to the JCW bumper new and I can get you the extra parts. Thanks |
