HID's in fogs :)

So I took a chance and went and bought a set of H8 3000K bulbs for my fog lights, I've had bad experiences with HID's in reflector housings, but here's what.

Factory fog lights on R56's have a round reflector with two bulbs inside (One for DRL and other for H8 Fog light bulb).

Looking at the design, I thought they would be a perfect cutoff so no need to mod or anything.

So, I bought and installed H8 3000K fog lights and they're bomb!!! they cut off perfectly just like I expected. Bought the bulbs from HID masters, but I'm not a sponsor or advertiser for them.

So, I would say YAY to HID fogs because they cutoff perfectly under the stock xenon projectors I have :)

I'm sure the HIDs in these fog lamps are fine because of the deep 'projector' like design and the cutoff with the top DRL.

That being said, its not the reflector housing thats the problem with HIDs like people think. Heck, even the 04-05 Subaru STi came stock with HID in a reflector housing. The reason it fails is due to bulb length. When you retro an HID bulb into a halogen lamp not designed for it, the focal point is shifted - typically forward. The HID bulb is physically larger and has its light coming from a different point than the stock bulb. This causes light scatter and thats why you are blinded by Hondas everywhere you go.

It doesn't matter the cutoff or the aim, its all scatter. Easy way to check if the fogs are OK not making you into a tool, just turn them on and check the angles. If you can see light standing from the side or above, then I'd go a different direction. I dont think these fogs will pose a problem considering their placement.
