DTC? DSC? EDLC? ASC? SPORT? Which buttons do you have?
I'm trying to find some reference photos for the R56 button layout in front of the shifter. I know all second gen MINIs have a Sports Button. What button do you have on the opposite side and what packages do you have?
I hear a base MINI comes with the ASC and Sport Button. Sports Package MINI is DSC and Sport Button (unconfirmed). Is there a third (+) combo?? |
I have a base model 2013 cooper S manual
I have the sports button on the left and the DTC on the right. |

Please don't judge me. It needs a good cleaning. LOL 2007 Cooper S - April build - Manual - Factory Limited Slip - Sport and Cold Weather Package "SPORT" on the left - "DSC OFF" on the right. Edit - And FWIW - in the original order options, I found this (I'm the second owner, but had the VIN read) - Order Options No. Description 210 DYNAMIC STABILITY CONTROL (DSC) |
2010 Sport and DSC standard, DTC optional
EDLC came with the DTC option and can't be turned off. The right button is "DTC" and I have no packages. The contents of packages are not consistent year to year. |

Weird... so is it DTC for manual and ASC for automatic?!
Every MINI has at least ASC (all season traction control). Earlier R56s had DSC (dynamic stability control) as an option. Later DSC was made standard and DTC (dynamic traction control) was an option. DTC is standard on JCWs. GPs have a GP button which does even more (or less). GP > DTC > DSC >ASC I think the ones on the left incorporate everything to the right. DTC includes EDLC, that's not a separate button. All the options were available as a standalone option, they didn't have to come as part of a package, though the sport package usually includes the latest option. Tristan has the DSC button, it came in the sport package. Algy has the DTC button because he's a JCW. Shawn had a DSC button, I'm not sure if it was standard on Ss or we bought it as an option. |

Most if not everyone with an "S" and no LSD seems to think ELDC is definitely preferred for autocross. JCW has it as standard. It is my impresstion that on the non-S it usually does nothing, sometimes helps, and sometimes hurts. It frustrated me that I could not turn it off when it seemed to retard forward motion on bumpy courses.
In any event, DSC and DTC must both be turned off. |

I am building a brand new MINI, but it is an "S", so yes, I ordered DTC. It is also useful in the snow.
If I was ordering a non-S I would try to find a non-S autocrosser lacking DTC to trade drives with. Failing that, I think I would order the DTC again. Note that I do not track my cars. |
Another quick question: the wording for building the mini is a little confusing for the dtc option - it makes it sound a little like the cars all come with DTC, and the DTC option just allows the mini to turn that function "off".. Can anyone clarify

(decided to go with cloth) one more thing.. i read that the "brake override" means brakes take precedence if brake and throttle are applied.. is this new? a fallout from the toyota issues? i guess no mini drivers are using LFB then? ::nevermind - it says if BOTH are FULLY depressed.. reading fail |
