Internal Circulation when it's Cold Outside
 

I apologize if this has been asked before but I did search. I was wondering if anyone else has issues with using the internal circulation function when it's cold outside? I have to drive by a rather nasty smelling chicken processing plant just about every day, and if I use internal circulation it always fogs my windows. It's bad enough to the point where it creates a visual obstacle.

Is there any way to prevent this? Any anti-fog window treatments that are safe for tinted windows?

I have the same problem occasionally but when I switch to the defrost mode it always goes away.

Yeah I can turn on defrost and it will go away, but then again it also cancels auto AC. I wish I could use the internal circulation feature regardless of temps outside. I suppose that comes with the joys of living in a rural area (but you can't beat the roads!).

...And the joys of auto climate control. If you try to use it in a way the designers didn't anticipate, you can create problems for yourself. That's the case with a lot of "auto" stuff, in fact.

I guess I don't understand the issues with the MINI fogging when using auto AC because the 328i Coupe I used to drive had both auto AC and internal circulation and worked without a hitch. It was spectacular internal circulation in fact. I could drive right over a skunk and never smell a thing, and certainly didn't have to worry about driving by the Tyson plant.....yech. Nothing like the smell of wet, dirty socks at 6:30 am and 4:00 pm.

It gets fogged up cause of the moisture in the air. If you turn on AC (which is turned on when you turn on the defrost) it would dry the air out and the fogging goes away. I do not have auto AC, nor do I wish to ever get it, and when it fogs I turn on air with AC on and it clears in seconds.

Is it getting so bad that actually having to push 2 buttons is a big deal?

You know you are passing the chicken plant. Push recirc, and the deforst button. Done. when you are past it, press the auto button. How hard is that really?

Hah Richard, I'm sure it sounds like I'm probably making a big to-do about nothing, but honestly the series of stoplights surrounding the plant give the car plenty of time to fog up when I hit the circulate button before I can get through them all. Then it takes a good couple of minutes once I turn circulate off to de-fog. I've tried pushing defrost shortly after circulate but there's a lag time there for it to de-fog. I'm not manic about this by any means, but it is an annoyance that honestly shouldn't be there on a modern car. My old Mini fogs up too, but then again, he's almost as old as I am so that's forgivable. None of our BMWs do this.

I was hoping maybe there would be a window treatment people have used that prevents fogging. Guess this is just one of those things MINI owners deal with though.

Just run the ac when you pres recirculate.....
bet the TINY...ER....MINI internal volume of the MINI has something to do with how fast tge car fogs up. Lets face it, the cubic volume of a mini is tiny compared to most....so the time it take to get the moisture level up on resculate is not long....
Why do people overthink stuff so much....when you breath in a SEALED box, moisture builds up...the moisture must be removed or it will create condensation. Simple. Small volume, and same sized human.....so faster condensation.....simple.
Modern cars do a few things to idiot proff them...like opening ventslet in fresh air when you turn on the defroster, etc....heck even on reticulate it opens periodicly to make sure you don't suffocate....newer rules are about every 20 minutes...windows will fog but you will not die....lol.
Still have to laigh when i see a car driving down the road....every window fogged up...usually an older car....no ac likely, recuilate most likly on, and the driver trying to wipe off the windows on a dry night/day. Remember, when you relay on the goverments to make laws, they are to protect the dumbest of the bunch....and that can limit what us smart folks can do...and cost us a few more $$$...it takes an averge person 2 brain cells perhaps to push a button, an auto makes a hundred bucks to automate, but a person that shathewe say that is one of the duller tools in the shed just will NEVER GRASP simple ideas....dew points, etc.
