Doesn't smell good

On hot summer day when I put the A/C on my 2008 S, I smell anti freeze coolant and only when a/c is on. In any other mode no smell.

Any idea what's happening?

Thanks

Sounds like you have a leak somewhere. Get your coolant system checked. How is your overflow container?

1. change the cabin air filter

2. check the a/c drain line ... be sure it is draining

if problem persists ... you have a problem

Coolant system should be flushed and filled every 3 years or 30K miles. One reason is for preservation of the headgasket and other related components to keep them supple and working effectively.

Could just be a bad hose connection, thermostat, water pump leaking onto hot parts causing odor in the cabin.

Subscribing for interest. My car smells a little "musty" when the AC is on full blast on a hot day as well. I just had the coolant flushed when I bought the car two years and 20,000KM ago.

Roll the windows down when you fart!

I changed my cabin air filter because of the "musty" smell. Worked for me!

The AC evaporator can easily get moldy and gross. Dark, cold, and wet conditions are a perfect breeding ground for nasty ****. The dealer has an evaporator cleaning service available.

And any auto parts store has a disinfectant spray you can use to help kill the gunk on it, my car is getting funky too. The spray does work! Give that a try if replacing cabin filter didn't work for you, also make sure you get the better charcoal carbon filter.

I've change the cabin filter but no success with this one

Where is the drain hole under the car? I think mine might be plugged. After running the A/C and parking, there is never any water under the car and yes it does smell bad when first turning on the air. R53

Yea pretty easy. All you need to do is pop open a box underneath the glove compartment and pull out the filter. I dont think you need any tools. There's a how to video on youtube somwhere.
