So yeah, my car won't start
 

Hi all, looking for some ideas here...I have a 2007 mcs with about 40k miles on the clock. The last few days when I go to start the car, it's slow to crank but eventually turns over and starts. But last night the wife and I got out from a movie and went to start the car and had no such luck.

The battery is fine (had it checked by aaa), but we couldnt jump the car, and I couldnt push start it. The lights come on, radio works, windows work, the damn thing just won't start. When I push the start button now, nothing happens.

Has this happened to anybody else? Any ideas?

do you hear the bendix noise as it actuates when you press the start button?

If not did you measure if you have voltage at the starter solenoid when you press the button?

The car acts as normal, I do hear a clicking noise when I press the button and the fuel gauge lights up as normal. No cranking noise though...Will try to check the voltage at starter solenoid...

Did you simply check voltage or complete an electrical load test?
Just because the battery have correct voltage, doesn't mean it has enough amps to crank over the engine.

This is a clear indicator that the battery has failed.
Have you tried a new battery to confirm?

Tried to jump the car and it won't start, tested battery voltage - reading 12.8.

No electrical load test, how do I do that?

Ok just hooked up volt meter to starter trip wire and had helper press start button and it's getting the full 12.8volts and the live positive wire is getting the same, any ideas for what's next?

As bluefox stated, get it load tested. The voltage can read fine but it can still not crank. If it was beginning to crank slow, that points to a dying battery.

Take it to an automotive shop that can load test or better yet, a dedicated battery shop. I've found that some auto chain stores don't know how to accurately test a battery.

Is it the original battery? If it is, replace it because five years is on borrowed time.

When my battery died I couldn't jump or push start the car.
