More smooth motoring to 35k miles, turned over this morning. Geez, I just posted 30k miles last month, nothing like a little road trip to the Mac bridge to get things moving along.

Looks like I'm losing the race to a set of "free" rear brake pads (under the maintenance plan). 1000 miles to go, computer is reading out 1400 miles left!

Got my '13 R56S last Nov. 18700ish miles. Had a "defective" windshield replaced by dealer and still having wiper problems(a fairly big deal in Portland OR) but no other issues. Loads of fun! Having owned older Toyota trucks I think I'll be hard to impress with trouble free miles.

2007 MCS. Got to about 45k with normal maintenance. Since then, the problems have started, both the typical and unusual. Had to replace the rear main seal (very expensive). Currently working with a failing HPFP (had the cold start problem for a while, but it just started throwing the high pressure system code) and a failed sensor that controls the hill-start feature.

Great car, as always, but far (FAR) from trouble-free.

Just rolled past 22,000 on Black Ice. Too busy enjoying seat time in my zippy little race car to play much here anymore! Approaching two years of ownership, so a brake fluid change is due at the dealer soon, along with a thorough checkup.

I really really don't want to jinx anything by posting to this thread, but my Mini has been the most trouble-free car I've ever had.

Purchased my '08 R56 used in 2009 with 8k miles on it, and I just passed 29k miles without any issues whatsoever.

Granted I don't drive as much as most, but this car is fun, zippy, and a blast to drive.
I love it.

Just clicked over 40,000 miles on the way to work this morning.

Took delivery in late March, 2012.

Still just motoring, in style!

Keep this thread alive! I believe it represents the most common experience of MINI ownership.

Great point if it helps others who just bought a Mini without knowing what can go wrong this will be a great resource of information.

I thought it was a valuable thread when I was researching MINIs before bought mine. There are many on here like that, very helpful. Timing chain / its tensioner; fuel pumps; thermostats; some others. Probably 3 months of hanging out on NAM and other sites to read up and learn.

So I've had a good experience so far. Yes, I bought an extended warranty. Doesn't use oil between changes, averages 34.9 mpg, ran 135.9 at the Texas Mile, went autocrossing, did part of MTTS 2012, did MINI on the MAC, MITO 2012. Had a 500+ mile tank of gas. So far, so good.

My car popped a tire at 500 miles but I won't count that.

I just passed 25.5k miles this morning and have a check engine light on and no heat in my car half the time. I'm kind of hoping it bursts into flames.

Why would you want your car to burst into flames?

So insurance will give me a pretty penny for it and I can get something different. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE driving this car.... but I can't help but think it's going to be a repeat of my 2000 VW Passat.

The CE light is on, it's probably still under warranty, and you probably get a loaner, so what's the problem?

Well right now, under warranty, it's just a PITA because the dealership is a good 60 miles from me. The warranty is good until 50k miles. I drove 25k miles in the last 14 months. I'm going to have to own the car for several years after the warranty is up and it looks like it is going to be about as reliable as my Passat was.

Next question. If the nearest dealer is 60 miles away, why on earth did you buy a MINI?if I didn't have 4 dealers within 45 mins, ( main dealer 10 mins), I never would have bought it. Unless you don't have any car dealers at all.

But then again I've got 2 other cars, a truck, and a motorcycle in the family.

Because my career path will take me within 15 miles of the dealer in the next year or so, but for the time being, I am 60 miles away. I didn't anticipate needing such extensive repairs so soon.

2011 MCS 29,000 miles. No issues. Bought extended warranty. Do oil changes at 5000 miles using Castrol. Switched Runflats for Continental DWS. Couldnt be happier.

Hi all, last week I bought a super clean 2011 MCS with 51k miles on it. So far its been a lot more fun than I imagined. I've ordered a repair manual for it as I'll try to do as much of the maintenance as possible. I've only noticed two issues. The front rotors are grooved but pads look fine. I figure that someone just replaced pads. The other is that it takes 10-15 miles to get heat out of it. After that, its quite toasty. The coolant level is okay but I'll be on the lookout for leaks. Any recommendations on pads/rotors? Suggestions on the heat? Anything I need to be cautious of?

I have the same year MCS . My manufacture date is 10/08 . I know I will get a recall for the Turbo cooling pump circuit board issue. Your heater control might just be a sensor. The old minis were famous for the heater control valve failing. I bought black DRAG wheels and a CT Racing catback exhaust for starters !! Have fun; best car I ever owned.
