Door Speaker Cover / grille
 

I was wondering if anyone can help me with a speaker grille replacement for my 2010 Cooper S. I recently had a window replaced and the person installing the window did not remove the door panel properly and broke the clips on the speaker cover. He attempted to glue it back in place and later it fell off while I was driving.

I'll try to upload a photo of the grille later on in case there is something that can be done to salvage the broken one.

Does anyone know where to find a replacement grille? I have seen the older ones online but not the 2nd gen ones.

Grab the part number you need from RealOEM and head to the dealer...

Arent those sonice welded to the panel? Clipped in? the list for #28 lists a screw but thats for the panel itself and not the speaker cover.

I believe those were sonic welded, Pull the panel off (remove securing tab under the handle and handle trim. Then the panel yanks off) If they were sonic welded as the "c-trim" is you will have to glue them back. If they are metal clipped, then you can purchase a replacement. That trim piece comes off with the door panel during removal so it may be sonic welded. Only way to double check is to remove the panel and see whats behind the fitment area.


Not taking away from what bluefox posted, a lot of the trim pieces in the door panel are offered for purchase individually but they will need to be "reconfigured" to fit exmp. door c trim pieces.

cant confirm 100% that the 2010 are sonic welded but i can say the 07-09 are so most likely the 10-12 are as well

They are welded a new grille is over $40 I have been driving around without mine
for over a year.

Have you both tried using a two part epoxy to "weld" the covers back on? Is "sonic welding" using plastic tabs that are melted on the opposite side? If so my 2000 BMW Z3 uses the same procedure for some underdash panels. One of mine broke, and my dad came up with the idea of using an old soldering iron to "re-weld" the plastic tabs. It's worked great for over 2 years now.

It seemed like that plastic that never glues well.
But I will try it coming up.

Yes it looks like it is melted but it is actually done with massive vibrations:thumbsup:

Clearwaterblue, did you end up replacing it yourself? A full container of windshield wiper fluid came down on my speaker cover the other day and cracked it in half. I was surprised that the replacement only cost $35 online so I want to fix it

No way! My dealer quoted me $200:no:

Really? Wow! I just took it in for normal service and told them what happened. When I picked it up, it was just like new. The service report shows the speaker replacement and says warranty beside it.

:sly: bummer, I guess they don't like me as much as I thought!

Might have to pull the panel off and do it myself one of these days even though the spice orange loaner they gave me is really giving me the itch for a spice orange jcw...

Goes to show,some dealers are better than others and are willing to do a good willl fix. Un.

do you have any tips on taking the speaker panel off? I was getting out of my Coop today at work and was parked on a slight incline. While i was getting out the door came at me and i put my foot out only to crack the grille. so mad right now.

I replaced mine the dealer has been offering best friend price on parts.
It was twenty something dollars I forget.
It has clips you can just pop it in does not need to be welded.
