Can I convert rear fog lights into clear backup?

It almost never gets foggy here, but I live on a street without streetlights, and my windows are tinted. The standard backup lights are weak, and turning on the red fog lights don't help.

Are there clear lenses? What about brighter bulbs?

No, but these look interesting.....

HID back up license plate frame clip

Link to store - I like the black framed one....

Also, Sylvania Silver Star bulbs are purportedly 30% brighter.

Guide is here: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/

Thanks for those links. The license frame is a great idea, chrome would work for me.

The Sylvania seems to be just for headlights.

Look into the reverse lights for a 2011 JCW aerokit. There's a chance they may be the same dimensions as the older rear fogs.

Cool! Thanks for the picture.

Now I just have to figure out how to sell the all-red lights here...........

The all red looks cleaner but I think the white centers could prove to be more functional.

Actually, I like the idea of a switchable clear, bright-as-hell light facing rear. Call it the anti-tailgater. Maybe put it on a strobe too.

I kinda miss my chipped TDI with large injectors. One stomp on the pedal and that thing would jet away leaving a huge cloud of gray diesel smoke to get sucked into the cabin of the tailgator. Perverse pleasure, pure and simple.

Uh, when I said something like that to the parts guy, he said "I didn't hear that!"

I would love to have a flamethrower device, like the Lead Sled guys have.

How much and where did you get them?

I bought a 2012 with the JCW Package and it only has one reverse light. I didn't order the rear fog lights, but still got one red lens. Looks like ass and would love to make them match.

Post #6 has part numbers, $69.92 each from MINI North Scottsdale parts department.

Thinking of changing bulbs to LEDs.

You rock, sir! Will be talking to my local Mini dealership this afternoon!!

I did this:
http://s214.photobucket.com/albums/c...ndor27596/led/
That is the 3W focused LED from www.plasmaled.com
I left the normal reverse bulbs in as well.
It's very handy as rear DRLs. But for tailgaiters I've found it is not enough.
I'm considering rear facing lights although that bad doesn't happen to much
here.

Are those using LED for brake lights in the album? Are they as bright as the original bulbs, and easily visible during the day?
