when you drive downhill..

When I alway drive downhill and step on the brake, RPM goes up to 3000 and engine sounds crazy. so I switched to neutral shift sometimes. it happened since i bought my car.. is this normal?

Weird. Does it only do this when you're using the cruise control? Automatic or manual transmission?

No i didn't use the cruise control and it's automatic..

Sounds like the transmission is just downshifting to slow you down.

Also don't put it in neutral going down hill. It is dangerous and a lot of places illegal because you will generate a lot of speed and might not be able to stop.

And it is not best for the transmission either. Automatics are designed to stay in gear unlike manual transmissions. I am not saying the it will damage the tranny but why take the chance of you having to much speed and the dropping it into gear and having it have to catch up so to speak.

it sounds like it's only happening to me...I forgot to tell you guys that when rpm goes up, speed is stayed at when I stepped on the brake. and when I accelerate speed, rpm goes up to 4000 and automatically realse. am i unlucky guy?...

No. This all sounds normal. Everything is working fine.
