Coolant Change - only a quart drained?

Opened the lower radiator hose and I only got a quart out. The cap is off of the reservoir and the heater is on high with the fan on low. Per the Bentley manual. Can't figure out what's going on. Any suggestions?

Is there a drain plug in the side of the engine block somewhere? I recently encountered the same situation when overhauling the cooling system in my MG.

Cheers,

(PS - just read your signature and I see that you have a Sprite. I'm not sure where the block drain is on the A-series engine - on my Midget 1500 it's low on the RH side of the block, just at the bottom of the water jackets. I'd guess that if the MINI has such a drain, it may be similarly located. Realize that this may be completely irrelevant! )
