Tell me I don't need a Goodwood -- Please!

Right now I'm driving a '94 Jag XJS as my 'beater' that I bought to follow Dave Ramsey plan and not have a car payment. Love the car thought it takes just a little bit of TLC now and then to keep it working tip top (more electrical than mechanical).

But here's the rub --> Saw an article on the Goodwood edition MINI. I fell in love. I've missed MINI ever since I sold my '05 MCSCa a couple of years ago and wanted one but this has gone into lust territory. I've kept it somewhat in check by telling myself that $52K is insane (which it probably is). Think that's probably slipping just a bit.

So help me out here. Tell me I don't need it ---- please, nay, pretty please!!!

Get it! Dave Ramsey will die rich and bored to death. Only then will he realize you can't take it with you.

amberback Aug 25, 2011 12:25 PM

You need a MINI, just not that ugly Goodwood. :)

Minibeagle Aug 25, 2011 01:05 PM

Screw the Goodwood.

Buy a pot of Grey Poupon mustard instead and act hoity-toity:lol:

Then buy a used MCS or a JCW:thumbsup:

You don't need it! You don't! (But I am not in agreement with the above, I think its really pretty). I think it goes against the standard Cooper modification (everyone seems to want carbon-fiber) but I really like the woodgrain look on the dash!

There are much better ways to spend $52k on a car. A big part of the appeal of the MINI is its bang-for-the-buck and gold plating it defeats the purpose IMHO.

+1. It's a fun concept but spending $52k to have a fancy interior is insane.

It's neat, but be sure to get it in the RR black and not Reef Blue. Also, if you're ordering get the stick as every dealer will order automatic for this one.

ngweibing Aug 25, 2011 07:47 PM

its a nice idea but not worth every penny...get more bang for bucks if u max out a jaw..might still be cheaper

highlander709 Aug 26, 2011 07:08 AM

Want's and needs, and what something's worth vs what it's not vary greatly based on the size of one's checkbook balance. While the Goodwood is a very well done and interesting exercise in a MINI, it's not for me. I'd rather put that $52K (plus a little more) into a Porsche Cayman.

Jolio Aug 26, 2011 07:16 AM

Don't do it. Would you pay as high as $315 per ounce for Saffron? Nutzo!

Gil-galad Aug 26, 2011 12:31 PM

I can give you 52,000 reasons...

...but if you are well off enough that the expense (can't say it's an investment) causes you no more financial pain than going with the coconut double-latte instead of the breakfast blend, you are probably within the set of targeted clientele. Enjoy!

It is INSANE! I think I'd buy a used Porsche or a Lotus before pitching over $52K +fees for a MINI. Don't get me wrong, I love my R56 S, but there is simply not a MINI worth that much money. Heck if I had another garage, I'd buy two MINI's! One for track and one for street

Agreed. Goodwood Mini is a complete RIP OFF

If your going to spend 52k on a car by something thats worth it...like say this.

richardsperry Aug 26, 2011 05:34 PM

I don't know, have you ever actually sat in a Roller? It's really special... (not even joking...)

PatM Aug 26, 2011 09:05 PM

If your debt free and have 6 months of living expenses saved and your retirement is where it should be, then buy what you want. But just realize that once you drive that car off the lot it's only going to be worth 40K if your lucky and will depreciate rapidly from then on.

Get it!!!!

CONTRARY to what Ramsey says.....YOU CAN'T DRIVE MONEY !

And it's all about the drive.....

As a former Jag owner.....I can say without a doubt. I have not driven nor sat in any Porsche or Lotus with an interior which compared in beauty and elegance of the English Luxury car......

Sorry, it's apples and pomagranates.

Yep, I would buy the Audi before I bought the Mini. No comparison at all!!

Gave my wife a Goodwood brochure and I think she is in love. But 52K is crazy!

Cherry Slurpee

Think of what the gorgeous seat, dash, and carpet will look like after your first panic-stop with a Cherry Slurpee not-quite-in the-cupholder :eek2:
