shift into neutral w/o starting engine...

hey guys, im just wondering if there is a way to put the MINI in neutral without having to start the car. i know with other cars that use a key you just need to put it to the on position and you can shift the car into neutral but the MINI does not do this.

i just want to know because im going to be taking some rig shots on my car and need to put it into neutral for a push.

Manual just shifts at any time!

Auto ... how about don't put it in park to start with! Just put in neutral and turn off. Use hand brake to stop it moving.

To put the trans in neutral without starting insert the key, press the start button without holding the brake pedal. After the accesories turn on hold the brake pedal down and move the shift lever to Neutral and hit the off button, you will not be able to remove the key.

And the manual bypass, if the battery is dead, is explained in the owners manual.

It involves lifting the panel that is around the shifter boot ring.

yellow tab under shifter

Hey if your MINI (2011) has died and you need to get it into neutral with no power simply do this: remove the boot around the gear selector and you will be able to see a yellow tab. Best way to pull this tab is with a hook and pull slowly. The tab can snap if you pull too abrupt. Once you get it to pull, the car will go into neutral.
