R56 How to Eliminate the Backfire ("pop and burble")?
#52
After all my engine/intake/exhaust mods I have on my '05 MCS, my P&B has only gotten louder. Love it! That sucks though if you find it annoying. It's pretty funny you bring this up because my brother also is not to fond of my extra exhaust sounds. He's always like "Why does it sound like you got rocks in your exhaust?" HAHA. While the sound is "manufactured," to me and as aforementioned in other posts, it only adds to the character of the car. The design/style of a MINI/Mini has always seemed a little cheeky to me, as the Brits would say. To refine the car into a luxury sports sedan with elegant quietness doesn't seem to fit the mold. I'm sure there'll be a way to cut out the p&b for you though, good luck.

If you'd like to reduce the pop/burble, here's something that might work:
On my '06, I noticed that with a free-flowing custom exhaust (or even just the resonator-delete mod on the stock exhaust), the pop & burble are noticeably louder than stock. So maybe a little additional "muffling" in the stock exhaust would quiet it down some.
Go to an exhaust shop and have them replace one of the straight sections of the factory exhaust piping with a tubular muffler. Let the mechanic know what you're trying to do so he can help you pick the right one. You're probably looking at about $100 parts and labor, and if it quiets the exhaust down significantly you know you're on the right track.

Like many others in the thread, I enjoy the sound. That, and turbo blow-off as well. As it was pointed out, to each his own... guess they thought most people liked it, which is why it remains part of the system
Edit: Any way to increase it without voiding warranties? Any thoughts?

For some reason my '11 JCW was pretty quiet--compared to some members posts that stated theirs pop/burbled from from the get go. After over 1,000 miles I could hear some. Had the resonator removed--and--wow. Louder with more pops and burbles--even in regular mode. I love it.
