Cravenspeed Flexpod Fixie Garmin GPS mount doesn't fit 2011 Cooper
 

So I ordered this part for my 2011 Cooper: http://www.cravenspeed.com/products/...GPS-Mount.html

And it came today and at first I was like :nod: but then after looking closer I was like :no:

It says on their website that this fits the 2011 Cooper, but it doesn't fit mine. Has anyone else ordered this part for their 2011? The issue is I only have 1 screw behind my tachometer, and this part requires 2. [EDIT: I didn't look closely enough, and had to get behind the tach to mount] See pictures below...

I have a 2011 Clubman, and the Cravenspeed Flexpod Garmin mount fits.

From what I remembered, I had to tilt the steering wheel down and then remove the two screws that hold the tach to the steering column. This way I was able to install the Flexpod screws onto the back of the tach. I think the screws on the back of the tach has a triangular pattern.

Hmmm, maybe a I made a mistake? Let me go take a look again...

I think you are right. I see the additional screw holes down there, they are really tucked back there. I'm going to try and fit this.

EDIT: You're right. I am an idiot who didn't see the openings behind there.

Don't feel bad. We all ask questions that at first seem brilliant and later not so much. The Flexpod Fixie was my first mod. I love it. With the known speedo error, it's nice to have the Garmin giving me my true speed. It is so nice to have it right there mounted "permanently" rather than sticking on the windshield.

Were you able to mount the Flexpod arm?

Yes, it's all set up now. I like it alot. I routed the garmin power cable from the plug near the cup holder up through the dash so it's fairly well hidden.

Good to hear you got everything resolved. Since my Garmin is a widescreen, I had to order the little extension arm for my Flexpod.

Mine is the 1300 so it's wide screen. So far it appears the way I sit that I can see it pretty clearly.

Flexipod mount for GPS Systems
 

I have 2011 Clubman and I want to mount my Garmin GPS using a flexipod mount but can I locate the GPS system on the left side. The cravenspeed website only shows the GPS system on the right. I want to mount it left of the tach so I can see it through the steering wheel. Anybody mounted one in that location?

I have mine mounted to the left of the tach. No issues at all.

Here are two pics. The one pic is of the mount w/o the GPS on it. The whole screen on my GPS is in clear view when I drive, but I suppose it depends on what angle you have your steering wheel at.

Thanks John... It looks good... I was thinking that I might try to mount mine in the space between the tach and the AC Vent. Not sure the bracket can be mounted that low. Visibility would be through the steering wheel as my wife is 5 foot and I am close to 6 foot, so I was trying not to block any view out the front windshield. This is my first Mini Mod so I am a little nervous.

Not a problem. The one that I bought is their less expensive, fixed mount. So the options are right or left, at the height you see in my pics. I believe they have another mount that has more options. The other cravenspeed mount adds in the option to have it centered above the steering wheel in addition to left or right.

There is another company that makes a mount that does put the GPS in that little space, but when I looked into it I was not impressed. It seems very hard to use -- having to put your hand through the steering wheel to input data. I looked for their website but I couldn't find it. Also keep in mind that the mount is attached to your tach, so when you lower your steering wheel the GPS lowers as well.

Since they cost the same, get the Craven W bracket, then if you want to later change sides for your GPS you can without remounting the bracket, or you have a second mount for a gauge if you want. Also, if your Garmin is bluetooth, consider a Garmin EcoRoute. It plugs into your OBDII port and can, among things, display on your GPS, five gauges that you choose to monitor your engine. I have mine set to engine temp., battery voltage, intake temp., intake pressure(boost), and engine load. There are several other choices, plus other functions. The EcoRoute sells for around $96 on Amazon.

Fixie GPS mount Modification
 

hi all.. this is an old thread I thought I would "update"
I have a new 2013 cooper S. I bought a Garmin nuvi 3597 (awesome BTW).. anyway I tried the Fixie mount and I was not happy with the stock location of upper right steering wheel and partially blocking the view of the dash and road... so....
I drilled a 3rd hole to accommodate the two LOWER screws on the back of the tach. NOW I can have GPS to the left of the wheel, just at dash level, and it is MUCH MUCH less visible to interested eyes. The standard mount location is a glaring opportunity for a thief. It is dead center and high.. now... at least it is blocked partially by my tinted windows, and to the far left... I like it MUCH better than stock.. !!..and the hole came out factory fresh.. with a dab of black spray paint to seal the new hole...

Looks good. You say you have no trouble seeing it?

I can see 90 percent of it. certainly enough to effectively use it....voice prompts helps immensely as well.. and it is voice activated .. I rarely have to see or touch it.
also as an added benefit.. it is probably 20 percent more stable as the screw holes are further apart. It is rock solid!
The quick release magnetic mount of this Nuvi ROCKS! as well... it is a 1 second dismount and mount and the GPS pops right into the center console .. this puts the GPS mount virtually out of sight of the winshield. Before.... the dismounted GPS was still GLARINGLY obvious in the middle of the dash to would be passer byers....
The stock location (in my opinion) was little benefit to decreasing the odds of a theft especially having to leave the magnetic mount/speaker on the 17mm ball mount to take advantage of the quick relase magnet.. In some ways, the standard location INCREASES the odds as the arm of the mount is not removable as the suction cup is... Once you put the Fixie mount on and it sits there in the middle of the car.. what do you do???

I try not to park in bad parts of town. Other than that, I hope that people don't notice it as they walk by. I think it blends in quite a bit so unless you are intently looking into my car, it's not all that noticeable in my opinion. Unfortunately it's not legal in CA to tint your front two windows otherwise I would do that and that would probably help as well.
