Why can't the dealership get it right!!!
Well I was setup for delivery on my MC hardtop for Thursday.
Had a really bad day yesterday and decided to stop by this morning to have a peek and drool. One small problem insted of having the leatherette that I wanted it has cloth very disappointing. I am waiting on word from the dealer as to possible workarounds and suggestions as to how to go forward |
If the wrong upholstery is Mini's or the dealer's fault, they should be willing to make it right. Why not just ask them to swap seats with one of the new cars on their lot?
|
It's not Thursday yet, they can still make it right and get it to you on time. Be patient!
|
want to offer me an Extender warranty on the cloth and they will not swap seats!!
|
Need more info. Did you order the car and it came in with something different than you requested? Or is this a lot car, or one brought in from another dealer?
If it was your custom order and is wrong, you will either need to accept it as is with some sort of concession on the dealer's part, i.e. more discount, some freebies thrown in, etc., or ask them to re-order it and wait. They are not going to swap out seats with another car on the lot, not going to happen. A third possibility would be if there is a third party upholstery shop they deal with. My car has a stunning custom two-tone leather interior that was done after the car arrived in just two days. Its price was comparable to or less than MINI factory options, and it's much better quality skins and workmanship. |

lot car pulled from another dealer they failed to disclose the cloth seats stating it had every option I want
|
That might be a bit trickier. I would try to negotiate a better compromise than cloth warranty, but it's unlikely they will swap seats for you. Maybe you can get them to knock off a few bucks towards the purchase of seat covers.

Q for you my understanding is the sport seats are only available in leather or leatherette so by them being in cloth and telling me that it has all options I requested they ARE lying to me ? as it does NOT have sport seats?
|
The configurator on MINIUSA allows for sports seats and Cloth options to be chosen, so I'm assuming you can have cloth sports seats.
|
You can get cloth sport seats... or at least was the case in '09. The cloth is better than the leatherette. Mine has leatherette and I wish it had cloth. The leatherette gets hot in the summer and does not breath like real leather.

And the ones I found fit so well they look almost as if they were custom made. |
Also, if they called the leatherette what it really is... vinyl... the cloth would seem even more desirable.

FWIW I had a very similar situation on a new Audi many yrs ago. The dealer got me a new car from another dealership but it had cloth interior and I wanted vinyl (2 kids and a dog at the time). I told them the cloth upholstery was a deal breaker and prepared to walk. They suddenly decided they could swap the seats from another new car on their lot. Three hrs later I drove away in my new Audi with VINYL upholstery. If vinyl seats are that important to you and the dealer isn't really interested in selling you what you want......WALK.
|
I have to say the faux leather has held up amazingly well... almost indestructibly so. 70,000 miles and looks like new. Still wish I had gotten cloth.

Leatherette is Limey for vinyl.

OP did not order the car, it's not the dealer's fault that the car they located doesn't have the exact options they want. If the OP was purposely mislead, then perhaps they should look elsewhere. If it's the closest they can find, OP needs to decide if it's good enough or keep looking. I am constantly amazed the hoops people think dealers should or will jump through for their business. It's a two way street. |
My son has cloth sport seats in his 09 MCCS. I have lounge leather in my MCS. Don't get me wrong, I love my green lounge leather, in fact I specifically designed my car around that particular seating option. That said, when I was preparing to order my MCS, I was having touble getting my head around $2K for the lounge leather so I seriously considered the cloth. I have to say the seats in my son's car are very comfortable, maybe even more comfortable than my seats. I never considered the leatherette (vinyl). I am sure the are durable, but my experience is they are miserable hot in the summer and cold in the winter. My dad had dark brown leatherette in an Audi years ago, and they were not good. I am redoing my Porsche 912 and it came with a tan leathette seating and trim. When the time comes, I plan to go with leather and tan, black and white houndstooth cloth. I say give the cloth a try. It's either that or walk away and look for another MINI.
|
I'd look at the fact the cloth seats are in fact sport seats as a free upgrade. Sport seats are very comfortable & cloth is cooler in summer & warmer in winter.
My R53 MINI has pleatherette. One seat cover replaced at about 35,000 due to cracking & the replacement is doing the same thing at 91,000. |
bear in mind that if op walks away from his order mini, there may not be the finance and free option incentives for next month. most car manufacturers have to scale back productions because of what's going on in japan.

It's a mistake, although I would never choose the leatherette. How about KatzKin leather......... That's what I did on my truck when the cloth seats turned into lint magnets....... 2 tone red and black with red stitching and custom digitized embroidered design to match my pinstriping....... http://marketplaceadvisor.channeladv...tzikin_002.jpg  |
^^^ I am going to ask for 500.00 off and take it from there then go for Mini leatherette or KatzKin leather, of corse there is also the option for wet Oakley covers as well
Keeping my fingers, toes, arms, and legs crossed for a reasonable resolution to this because aside from the seats the car is exactly what I want |
I hope you can reach an agreement with the dealer and move on! I have the vinyl seats. The used car dealer I bought the car from insisted they were leather, but I insisted that it was clearly vinyl. They are not too hot in the summer or cold in the winter, love the heated feature in the cooler months. They are holding up quite well and there are nearly 40,000km on the clock. That said I wouldn't mind having cloth. I don't have kids or dogs and I don't eat in the car, so they would be easy to keep clean.

Seat covers are for rednecks. Take the money and run.
