Question on cost of buying a new mini

I'm looking to get a used MCS 2007 or 2008. The listed price that dealers/sellers are asking for are a little steep.
I was wondering if anybody here recently bought a used mini or (CPO) and how much they were able to take off the listed price.

My dealer has used cars and never seems to move more than a $1000, maybe a hair more if they have had it for 45+ days. Normally they price them very competitively and treat their customers well.

I have to agree with you on this. I am actually getting ready to sell my 07 S so that I can get a new 11 S and was at the dealer a couple of weeks ago. Looking at the prices on the used 07's especially compared to what that particular dealer was looking to give me for a trade in was rediculous. As long as they still make some money, I would think you should be able to talk them down some, especially if paying in cash.

For my car, I split the difference between the trade in value and what they are asking at the dealerships. This actually comes to pretty close to the blue book value of the car, just a little under.

I would look up the value of the car before going to the dealership and tell them what you think is a reasonable price.

It depends on how long the dealer has had the car. When they first get it, it will be marked up a few grand. After a couple of months, they'll be highly motivated to sell it and will probably have lowered the price themselves. From the initial price, I was able to get them to take 10-15% off.

Of course it depends on the type of dealer. Some dealers start at a less outrageous price. To paraphrase Warren Buffett, never be too embarrassed to offer too little or to ask for too much.
