"It's not my fault, the mini made me do it"

My mother is in her 70's (early (just in case she reads this...lol)) and though she has a beautiful low mileage SC430 Lexus, she wanted something to replace her Prius. (yeaaaaah, she lives in Florida...lol)

So last year we picked up a brand new 2010 Mini Cooper S in pepper white. Before the car arrived, I already had a JCW aero kit sitting there for it. I also painted all her trim rings pepper white to match. The car looks great.

She insisted she wanted leather seats. We couldn't find any so I had a set of black leather seats with white beading around the edges made. They look fantastic.

Anywaaaay... I had to fly to Florida this weekend and when I was following her in the rental I picked up, I noticed she had ordered a personalized tag.

ZIP AROUND (I know it was that way exactly... too many letters but it was obvious what she had on it)

I was like  , my 70 y/o mother has a plate that says zip around.???

And then I realized why... we were running 52 in a 45 and she came behind a mini van, I looked down, looked up and she was GONE!!!

SHE BLEW AROUND THE MINI VAN LIKE I WAS STANDING STILL!!!!

She passed the van and came to a sweeping right hander and blew through it so fast, I thought I was at turn 4 at VIR!!!

OMG, my mother???

We arrived at here house and I was laughing so hard...

"okay Mario Andretti... when the hell did you start driving like that?"

She laughed and said, "it's not my fault... the mini makes me drive that way"

I love it.... she gets it!

Thanks for sharing that story, Mark. That definitely put a smile on my face, too.

hehe, I was driving my mother and sisters back from a christmas dinner this year and she very casually commented about 2/3 the way up her twisting winding hill about the speed I was going compared to the recommendation for that road. I don't know if I'd let her behind the wheel though... Who knows, she may never let the supercharger stop screaming for dear life.

Ha, MINIs are funny that way. I make myself tone it down when my wife is riding along. She tends to gasp and grab at things if I get carried away. Driving it by myself, however, brings out my inner Andretti.

Cheers,

Spridget

Awesome. If I ever get to your moms area and see the plate I will be sure to wave and toot the horn. I am currently waiting on my personalized plate.

I love the kink or known as the" real turn 1". At 170mph on a bike its hard countersteering to get the bike to turn. Nothing beats the roller coaster. If you like to run at VIR youll like thunder in NJMP. I prefer lightning because its a faster more fluid course for a litre bike but thunder is very technical and if they run with the chicane its a great mini forte spot.

Just make sure your mom doesnt out run ya lol :eek2: jk

I took my mom on vacation, which involved a 200 mile drive. (Let me point out that down here the speed limit is much less "restrictive"...). Any way, we where driving along fine, as she was contemplating the MINI's speedo design, she suddenly yelled: "YOU ARE TAKING THIS CURVE AT 100 mi.... oh wait, it isn't that bad!". We ended up having a nice conversation about the car's quality and how my dad has turned her into a nervous wreck. Thought that was funny.

Similar story here except with my wife. Never thought she would become such a spirited driver! Or so attached to a car.
