Torn Small O-Ring in Oil Filter Housing: Can't Drive
I just went to do my first oil and filter change on my 2010 Justa. When I removed the oil filter housing and filter, I found a torn O-ring laying in the housing that is about 3/4" in diameter. It looks like it either goes in the relief at the bottom of a short spring loaded shaft in the bottom of the alloy housing, or possibly between the plastic cover and the filter, though I would bet on the former.
I am NOT talking about the large O-ring that goes around the housing and is included in the BMW filter "kit" (i.e. filter, o-ring and drain plug crush washer). I have the BMW TIS and can't find a picture of this. I have good supply of O-rings, but I can't put the car back together until I know where to put the small O-ring. Hope someone knows what I am referring to and can tell me where the small O-ring goes. Thanks, DOC. |
We've been through this before. I even posted a picture of the O-ring.
Forget it it it is simply the result of one getting caught up in assembly and winding up somewhere inside. I pulled mine out at 5K miles. I'm at nearly 20K with no ill effects. Don't worry about it -- I'll post a link to the thread when I find it. |
