I've been wondering, when you remove the motor and respray things like the firewall. how do you clean all of the oily gunk and cosmoline off the surface first?
I go back to this thread and look at all the time, its an excellent resource with the detailed pictures and all.
Thanks again, and of course, you know we all think this car is amazing.
Thanks guys, much appreciated. Yeah, cleaning the engine compartment well is pretty essential because if you don't, you'll end up with fisheyes in the paint from any grease/oil.
We wash it down with any type of degreaser like grease lightening, etc, first. Then, we wash everything down with lacquer thinner. Once satisfied the oil/grease is gone, we wash it down with ajax/comet and then use a paint degreaser for a final wash before sanding it.
Prep is always the most important part. You can put a nice paintjob on a car but if it isn't prepped right, it'll only be a matter of time having to redo it.
My wife is the photographer in the family, my iphone doesn't cut it...lol. I'll post pics here soon.
Great, glad you got it. I changed computers at work and couldn’t find the part numbers I saved... I’ve been so busy lately, I honestly forgot about it.
I know this is an old thread and a lot of people have said this ... by god i have nothing but respect for you for rebuilding it and not starting over ... loveee your car, every inch of it and that custom paint job is veryyyy nice... kudos on the car
